Sex scandal, Iraq book take toll on Bush, GOP (NBC/WSJ Poll)
msnbc.com ^ | 4 October 2006 | Mark Murray

After what they have seen and heard over the past few weeks -- events including the news of a Republican congressman's improper correspondence with a teenage page and the recent release of journalist Bob Woodward's unfavorable portrayal of the Bush administration's handling of Iraq – respondents to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, by more than a 2-to-1 ratio, say they have a less favorable impression of the Republicans maintaining control of Congress.

What's more, a strong plurality believes the Iraq war is hurting the country's ability to win the war on terrorism, a significant shift from a month ago.

Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted this survey with the Republican Bill McInturff, says that there is the point in every election when it becomes crystallized for voters. And the events from the past week, he notes, could very well be that point for the upcoming midterms.

The news of a Republican congressman's improper correspondence with a teenage page and the recent release of journalist Bob Woodward's unfavorable portrayal of the Bush administration's handling of Iraq all seem to have taken a toll on President Bush and the Republican Party, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Among its findings, a strong plurality believes the Iraq war is hurting the country's ability to win the war on terrorism, a significant shift from a month ago. And with the midterm elections nearly a month away, the poll shows that voters -- by more than a 2-to-1 ratio -- have a less favorable impression of Republicans maintaining control of Congress, after what these voters have seen and heard over the past few weeks.

It is simple. The democrats win all the media polls, we win the real elections polls, it has happened so many times before.

Real Americans are smarter than this.

Democrats have to rely on lies and dead people.

You know, it is beyond reason to think that what one man does is supposed to effect the entire party and the election! How ludicrous, and if this were a democrat it wouldn't. The media would downplay it, the spin would be the poor man has had to hide his sexual preferences etc. etc. and it would effect the left for the good. I Despise the media!

The whole Foley issue was a masterful plot by the DIMs. I think it's clear that they knew about this for a long time, and they waited until now to spring it. It has caught the Republicans flat footed and unable to react adequately. I think the Woodward book is over hyped and average people aren't paying the slightest attention to it. I seriously doubt most people are even aware of it.

5 weeks is very long time in politics. And Karl Rove said something about an October surprise.

I'm not giving up just yet.

Yeah, because that's been the MSM's *drip-drip-drip* mantra for the last three and a half years. Only people who stear clear of the MSM and educate themselves are immune from this constant assault on the realities of the world.

Don't worry -- any poll with MSNBC attached is worthless!

They over sample Dims by about 10% and sometimes more and they tend to leave out middle America when they do polling. We are too conservative for their polling! :)

Had one poll where I supported the President and the pollster asked me if there was anyone else in the house to talk with because he had too many people that supported the President already based on the number of Dems that should be answering in OK. Guess the moron didn't realize every Oklahoma County went for Pres Bush.

Polls are pretty worthless now with the fact we have caller ID and I along with a lot of other Republicans refuse to answer most of the calls.

The thing exploded just as Congress was leaving town to campaign. I question the timing.

One more thing. Congressional elections are very local. National generic polls are utterly meaningless. The media has to poll each of the 435 districts and each of the 32 Senate seats to see where we are, and I will tell you it is looks much better for us than a national generic poll. A person in Massachusetts does not elect a Congressperson from a district in Florida or a Senator from Maryland, so his opinion is only meaningful when it comes to his district and his state.

Why do you need hope. Aren't you a fighter? When things get tough or sound tough you just automatically believe everything you hear and read. Not me, thank you, I'm a fighter and I'm out there telling everyone that will listen that if we don't start fighting back now and stop whining than you deserve what you get. This is just the democrats little game they play every election year. Ask them what they plan to do about the war in Iraq, or just anything. So far they don't have any thing to tell us that they are going to do other than raise the taxes, and get out of Iraq. Is that what you all want? Than don't give in, fight!

Hey Dash, This is basically the drama of Democrat Propaganda. And when the Pubbies retain control of congress contrary to the predictions such as these in this article, the Dems and soicalist leftists who populate what they pass off as a professional media community in America, will accuse the Pubbies of cheating yet again!

Americans will never let these leftists POSs have power over our national defence.

Not while Islamofascists are bent on establishing a World caliphate.

Just imagine, Wesley Clark as our new Secretary of Defense presiding over our military's conversion into a liberal peace corps, that ocassionally carries guns without any ammunition.Every American worth an ounce of spit knows that, and all of the propaganda in the world won't change it.
