NICKEL MINES, Penn. (Reuters) - Two girls died overnight after a school shooting in Pennsylvania, bringing to five the number of students killed when a gunman burst into their one-room schoolhouse, state police said on Tuesday.

It was the third deadly U.S. school shooting in the past week and took place in an Amish farm community where there is little crime.

The gunman, identified as Charles Carl Roberts, 32, killed himself after lining his victims against the wall and shooting them execution-style in the head.

I think you are right. He was angry at God for taking his child, so he decided to do the same thing to other parents? He was angry that he daughter didn't get to live a life, and so he decided to make sure other girls didn't get to live a life either? Does not make sense. He was crazy or possesed.

It is clear that his plan was to bind up and sexually assult these little girls. Something was very wrong with him, for a long time now. I do not believe that no one could tell. Many wives do not want to believe that their husbands are monsters. Some wives turn a blind eye to their husbands raping their kids; beating their kids and verbally berating their kids. These same wives sit with their husbands in church and hang on to their hands. I have seen it several times.

But, they had a door that locked. Just think what could have been prevented, if the door had merely been locked.

I believe that the school had a bell, perhaps it could have been rung, and the killer would have been stopped.

Boy, did you hit the nail on the head. Pastor just on Foxnews saying that wife of the perp was head of the prayer group at the church. DENIAL.

She may be in denial; I do not know this circumstance, and really don't want to throw rocks at this woman. I was just saying that I have witnessed women who cared more about their own REPUTATION than their own children's welfare. I don't know if she is one of them.

I am glad she was praying. I think she had to have known something was wrong with her husband--and was doing what she could do: pray. I am praying for her, I hope she continues to pray and does not lose what faith she has. She needs faith to raise these kids--and get on with life. She has a lot to deal with.

Ah, sorry. However, public schools in rural areas do little more than lock the external doors so outsiders have to get buzzed in. I think only some inner city schools have metal detectors.

I heard on the news channels that He took his children to the bus stop that morning for school.

School shootings are all terrible, but this one has hit me harder than most.

Me, too. For some reason, this really appears to be more suited to be described as "possessed by a demon" than most of the others, too. I'm very touched by one of the members of the community saying, "We think it was God's plan and we're going to have to pick up the pieces and keep going... A funeral to us is a much more important thing than the day of birth because we believe in the hereafter. The children are better off than their survivors."

I'm feeling like one of his "survivors" now, too. I've just gotta keep praying about this situation.

Me, too. This is the ultimate in "when bad things happen to good people." I know the girls are in a better place, I believe that with all my heart, but I grieve for the families.

Right. As a parent, HOW could he kiss his little 7 year old girl goodbye at the busstop, and then go to a school to rape and kill other little girls the same age?

I don't understand it. But, when you think about it, that is exactly what Nazi Officers did, who worked at the death camps.....humanbeings have a great capacity to committ horrible attrocities.

It is acts like this that proves to me that evolution is a fairy tale--for mankind is NOT getting better with time! Nature is not doing a good job of weeding out the unfit!

Seems the Bible is true--that man is born a sinner--and his nature must be changed by the power of God.

I have to disagree that this was "God's Plan". The Bible tells us clearly that God has "good" planned for us; not evil. This act was an evil act. Evil is never in God's plan.

No, this was not the Lord's plan. This was Satan's plan. The Bible clearly tells us that Satan comes to "rob, kill and destroy".

This happened because we live in a fallen world, and in a country where 'we the people' allow much evil to spread and infect our nation. These types of acts are what we get for living in the society we have created.

One could argue that WE "planned" this, by allowing the "free speech" of pornography, homosexuality, and all out lust in every TV and magazine in America. Our society puts self centered "needs" and wants, as a top priority; redefining selfishness as a highly protected, sacred, "virtue"!

The immorality that we support and allow, caused these acts.

Purely historically, it has been proven time and time again, that societies where sexual immorality is rampant, breed horrific violence. These societies soon fall. Moral rot weakens the people from within, so that they fall from powers without.

Good for you, patriciamary. Good for you and your children.

I've homeschooled 3 of my four children. Had I known better early on, I would not have hesitated to home school the first one. There have been financial hardships, and had to give up on a lot of things, but I believe, in the end, the investment is worthwhile, not only for them, but for their progeny as well.

You do well not to pay attention to the nay-sayers and to pay attention to their children and notice that many of them, in the end, where they have ended up. I've lived in the same neighborhood for 33 years and have seen the stark differences. While many who have home-educated their children or send them to parochial schools are now doctors and lawyers, the ones who didn't are unemployed good-for-nothing bumps or are employed at menial jobs.

My slogan: Do not hesitate to home educate!

I still have no faith in humanity. Everytime I read about horrible things like this or see them firsthand I lose more of my desire to live.

If the helper isn't coming
someone should just kill me now!

Don't count on it. There is nothing good to hope for. We might as well not have anymore children. They're just going to get slaughtered anyway.

What lucky people these Amish are to have faith like that.

I don't have any. For every billion of the little ones who have been crushed, death take me a billion times!
