Five girls dead after Amish school shootings

NICKEL MINES, Penn. (Reuters) - Two girls died overnight after a school shooting in Pennsylvania, bringing to five the number of students killed when a gunman burst into their one-room schoolhouse, state police said on Tuesday.

It was the third deadly U.S. school shooting in the past week and took place in an Amish farm community where there is little crime.

The gunman, identified as Charles Carl Roberts, 32, killed himself after lining his victims against the wall and shooting them execution-style in the head.

I just heard on the radio that the death of a child years ago made him angry with God.

He had a little girl who died in infancy in 1997.

But his wife said he was doing this as revenge for an incident that happened in 1986.

I'm more intrigued by the fact that he murdered little girls and that his little girl died so young.

It may be time to look into that 1997 incident.

I don't really care what he thought or why he did it. I'm just glad that he killed himself to spare us and the families some long, drawn out trial where we would have to hear everyday about his reasoning or depression or whatever.

Several were shot in the head and several in the arms, legs and shoulders. Several were talking with hospital staff and those with the non-head injuries are hopeful for survival. I believe, but could be wrong, that there is still one critical head injury.

These bags of human debris often attack national armory sites and police stations and kill randomly.......wait, no they don't, because they would immediately be cut down in a hail of gunfire.

No, they go to schools precisely because no one is allowed within 1000 ft of any school with anything that remotely looks or sounds like a firearm....

Wonderful logic the liberal bastids have, disarm, and proclaim a gun free zone, in areas where society is acutely most vulnerable and in need of protection.

The blood of all childen shot in gun free zones should be squarely placed at the feet of legislators and parents alike who support and push this crap.

I homeschool my kids, and Columbine was one of the many reasons why.

They haven't beefed up security in schools? Color me naive, but I thought there were metal detectors and stuff in schools nowadays.

God forgive me, but I'm glad he's dead, too. I'm sure we would have all been treated to endless stories about how he was abused as a child, was innocent by reason of insanity, etc.

Absolutely nothing! This scum was evil personified and "blaming" "something or someone else" for his unspeakable cowardly deeds is unthinkable. Truly unimaginable.

I had this argument with a co-worker yesterday. He's not a full-on-liberal, but doesn't believe guns belong in school.

So I challenged him to define exactly what could have prevented a person bent on killing innocent children from being successful in this case? The whole lunchroom went silent. I didn't need to drive it any harder. 35 people in the room; no answers but one. "A teacher trained and authorized to carry a firearm in the classroom". This answer from a young female employee of the catering company.

Some people "get it"; most don't.

This was a one room Amish schoolhouse, not a public or even private school.

Security has been intensely improved in schools in the past years. There will never be a metal detector in an Amish school, nor a gun.

School shootings are all terrible, but this one has hit me harder than most.

I feel the same--there's something about these peaceful people having their innocence ripped away from them.
