It could come out that everything was faked and that Foley is innocent

How can people still think that is possible??? The delusion is breathtaking!

I think George W. Bush has a grand strategist at work. This strategist is not Karl Rove, it's the Christian God.

I pray to said Christian God that you're right. A Republican loss in five weeks is just to horrible to contemplate.

I am so tired of the knee jerk reaction in Washington. Why not wait until all is investigated fully before jumping the gun. Automatically WP is calling for resignations before all the facts are in. Same old faces in congress are rushing to judgement as usual. Foley should have resigned long time ago, he knew what he was doing was wrong and unworthy of the office he held (Alcoholism or not). Woodward writes a book and it is automatically considered fact. Once again, the DEMs are calling for Rumsfield's resignation. Hang in their Rummy! Funny how all this stuff only surfaces right before an election or when it looks like President Bush is on the upswing. I hope the DEMS and POTUS HATERS once again end up with egg on their face

Take for example Israel's leftist and how they mishandled the recent war. It's had a major impact on the minds and hearts of the Israeli public. They're now moving toward conservative thinking on ME issues. Trading land for peace is an illusion that their leaders bought into and it grossly failed. These kind of moments are honest presentations of reality not MSM spin. I believe God grants people these kind of moments to avoid eventual catastrophe such as warning an overconfident Israel about their lack of preparation for a war with Iran.

"So, shall we assume you have all the facts of this story?"

No, I don't know anymore than what has been published. But, I do know that the e-mails and IM's are merely peripheral factors. More important facts are he resigned, he admitted himself to treatment, appointed a lawyer who stated he was not a pedophile (a person who has sex with minor children, pre puberty). But he said nothing about his being an ebophile (a person having sex with young adolescents, post puberty). In addition Foley wrote a local TV station and apologized saying he had alcohol and behavioral issues he needed to deal with. All of this suggests to me the e-mails and IM's are merely window dressing for the main event which we will know soon enough. And, in these kind of situations the news is always worse than expected. It is my belief that Foley betrayed the people of his district, his party, his colleagues as well as any individuals he may have harmed in his acting out. I think it is obscene for people to try and blame others for his destructive behavior.

"ABC news website has a video of Foley praising a 2002 graduating class of pages"

What bothers me more than anything else is everyone running around trying to find a guilty party. This guy has probably done enormous damage to kids. It will come out. But rather than allowing it to be a moral issue, we are desperate to turn it into a political issue. As a result, a good man like Dennis Hastert is being railroaded simply because he sits in the firing line. Nobody is prepared to look at and understand just how deceptive these predators can become. I think we are making a terrible mistake in not allowing to be as simple as it appears in the first instance. The perp is the problem.

The perp is very much the problem but there is an undercurrent here that stinks to high heaven. Look at this and be sure to read Feldman's links to the anonymous blogger

Nobody is prepared to look at and understand just how deceptive these predators can become.

That's why when Hastert saw a warning sign like the creepy emails, he should have had an in-depth investigation, rather than Shimkus asking Foley and taking his word for it.

You can't just say, gee, sexual predators are deceptive, there's no way they could have known -- BECAUSE sexual predators are deceptive, they SHOULD NOT have taken Foley's word, and they SHOULD have taken the situation seriously and had an actual investigation.

I think it's obscene for certain people on this board to demand Hastert's head for not stoning Foley on the steps of the Capitol for the email exchange that was brought to their attention.

If Foley has in fact admitted the IMs are completely factual, then I want to know how old the victim was at the time and whether or not it was legally a crime. It needs to be pursued and if any adult had knowledge of it and didn't divulge it for partisan politcal purposes, they need to be identified as well.

"I cannot even describe my reaction on this forum after your defense of a man seeking sex with underage boys."

And I can't even describe my astonishment of your lack of reading comprehension. So far, the only proof of anything wrong are anonymous instant messages posted to a blog started months ago without any original content until this. If that evidence is enough to convict someone of child molestation, then there is a problem with our society.

That said, something is suspicious because Foley resigned *earlier* than the IM's and is claiming that it was the IM's that are the reason. It can't be that. Either he has done something far worse, or there is some advisor that told him to make himself scarce because of the accusations.

Thank you. Without verified IM's, all kinds of allegations are being made on here with nothing to back them up. I agree he should have resigned. That said, people need to take a deep breath and wait for the investigation to take place.

WT is nuts since the investigation is being conducted by the FBI and last I checked they didn't work for Congress. (sarcasm)

Didn't the WT get rid of Bill Sammon who is one of my favorites at the White House? WT is not the same as they were several years ago and Drudge shills for the Dims all the time.

"but there is an undercurrent here that stinks to high heaven."

That why it needs to be addressed as a moral and legal issue and not as a political issue. I am sure there will be enough political blame for everyone to have their fair share in time. More important, you have predatory sexual behaviors involving young kids and that should be the first priority in this matter.

dan, there are some people who still think it's possible Foley is innocent.

That list does not include Foley.

Think about it.

"That's why when Hastert saw a warning sign like the creepy emails, he should have had an in-depth investigation,"

I cannot disagree with what you say but it happens all the time. Predators work their way into situations where they have access to vulnerable kids (boy scouts, youth activities, sports events). How did this guy become responsible for a Committee dealing with missing and exploited children? This guy was doing his stuff for a good while and it seems so unjust that Hastert takes the hit. He deceived a lot of people including Hastert.

"I want to know how old the victim was at the time and whether or not it was legally a crime"

It is not just an issue of age. Power and authority are also a factor such as an harassment situation involving a young women who starts to work in a law firm and senior partner asserts himself to try and impose an unwanted relationship. The same dynamic would be at play with a young page having to deal with a powerful Congressman. The age of consent may not be as important as some people are inclined to think.
