COLUMBUS Congressman and former prison psychologist Ted Strickland yesterday told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that Ohio is a backwards state because of restrictions on abortion and embryonic stem cell research. Strickland, a strong abortion advocate, claims Ohios economic woes are a direct result of these restrictions. Further, he believes the state has an image and attitude problem as a result.
Ohios got a big problem with its image and with its attitude, Strickland told the newspapers editorial board during a joint interview with gubernatorial candidate Ken Blackwell. Referring to the restrictions, Strickland said, All of these things paint a picture of Ohio, I think nationally and perhaps even internationally, as a backwards state."
Gubernatorial candidate Ken Blackwell believes Ohios economic problems are a result of high taxes, an anti-business regulatory climate, an underperforming education system and inadequate health care. Blackwell has pledged to make job creation his number one priority as governor and devote his first 100 days in office to creating Ohio jobs.
Strickland is so obsessed with his radical left-wing agenda that he believes our state can create jobs by removing all restrictions to abortions, Blackwell spokesman Carlo LoParo said. Jobs are created by cutting taxes, streamlining government, improving healthcare and education not by aborting babies, Mr. Strickland.
Ohioans are good, hardworking people with solid Midwestern values, LoParo said. It is clear Strickland does not respect Ohioans nor does he share our values. He owes voters a big apology.
In January, when accepting the NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio endorsement Strickland said, I would veto any legislation to further restrict access to reproductive health care including abortion.
If Strickland believes abortion is the most important economic issue facing the state, what pro-abortion legislation would he forward in the first 100 days as governor? LoParo asked. He is an out of touch radical left-winger."
In Congress, Strickland has voted in favor of taxpayer-funded abortions, against criminal penalties for harming an unborn baby during the commission of a crime (now known as Lacis Law) and against a ban on human cloning.

Ping!
Maybe the best way to see Blackwell win is to let Taxin' Abortin' Ted keep talking...
Hey Cleveland Rocks!
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
Maybe his plan is to boost the state's economy by making it the abortion capital of the country? That would sure be a boost to the baby killing industry.
More concerned with "image" and how it looks, rather than the actual....you know, life of innocents.
Soulless ghouls. Pretty neatly sums up the democrat position.
Hey, why shouldn't we play the "race card" once in awhile, the other side does it...
Words of advice to Ken Blackwell: if your opponent is digging a hole for himself, let him. Don't say a thing, just shrug your shoulders...
I have never thought of the abortion industry as a huge job creation industry. Old Ted doesn't have much of a clue on how to transmit his great logic into votes...does he?
Blackwell is my favorite candidate this cycle. Unfortunately, it appears he has not a chance....and 99% b/c of that corrupt idiot RINO that went ahead of him.
Oh, well...Blackwell's not done on election day. At least I hope not. He's young enough to live to run another day...win...and then.....who knows??
There's nothing wrong with Ohio
Except the snow and the rain.
I really like Drew Carey
And I'd love to see
The Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.
Sounds like Ted has Dixie Cluck disease...
Exactly... :-)
Ohio gals are a good time.
I'm not yet convinced he's gonna lose...
Strickland shouldn't be measuring the drapes of the governor's mansion just yet.
This is the roughest environment for the GOP in years, but we still have one heck of a GOTV machine.
Let's pray for him. I'll say again that I do not think polls will be reliable when calls are made to black households considering voting Republican. I just don't think they will tell strangers.
I live near cincinnati and in a very conservative area...Blackwell doesnt have the kind of support that he needs here to overcome the more liberal areas. It doesn't help that he couldnt get out two words without stuttoring in the debate and his answer to every tough question was just to say taxin' ted.
Unfortunately, this meatball is probably going to win because current governor Taft was such an incompetant RINO.
"Ohio, you're nothing but a slacker!"
"Yes sir, Mr. Strickland sir"
He did better in the second debate than the first, IMHO.
