It looks as if immigrants youths want to turn nightly rioting during the Islamic holy month of ramadan into an annual tradition. Around 8:30pm last night violence erupted again in Brussels, the capital of Europe. The riots centered on the Brussels Marollen quarter and the area near the Midi Train Station, where the international trains from London and Paris arrive. Youths threw stones at passing people and cars, windows of parked cars were smashed, bus shelters were demolished, cars were set ablaze, a youth club was arsoned and a shop was looted. Two molotov cocktails were thrown into St.Peters hospital, one of the main hospitals of central Brussels. The fire brigade was able to extinguish the fires at the hospital, but youths managed to steal the keys of the fire engine.
During the month of ramadan Muslims are required to fast during the day and are only allowed to eat after sunset. As Esther pointed out What should be noticed about the riots is that they start after sunset. Besides the fact that they start after dark, it also gives the rioters enough time to break their fast and enjoy the traditional family meal. Sunset is around 7:30pm. Tuesdays and Mondays riots began around 8:30pm.
Last night the police arrested 45 rioters. One of them will be prosecuted for assaulting the owner of a shop. Philippe Close, the chef de cabinet of the Mayor of Brussels, Freddy Thielemans, said that the authorities would continue their efforts to defuse the situation in a peaceful manner, but he announced that the police will be less complacent in future, since we cannot tolerate that this [Marollen] neighbourhood falls victim to a problem from outside the neighbourhood.
The immigrant youths claim that they are upset by the death of Fayçal Chaaban, a 25-year old criminal, in a Brussels prison last Sunday. Yesterday morning the authorities announced they would hold a meeting with the youths to hear their grievances about security in prison, but the meeting, which was due last night, could not take place because of the riots.
The authorities are especially nervous since the Belgian municipal elections are being held on Sunday October 8th. It is likely that the elections will be won by anti-immigrant, islamophobic parties. Since ramadan will not be over on October 8th and many immigrants might perceive a victory of the indigenous right (as opposed to their own far-right) as an insult, Muslim indignation over the election results in major cities may spark serious disturbances. According to a poll published today the Vlaams Belang party is set to win 38.6% of the vote in Antwerp (compared to 33,0% in the previous municipal elections six years ago).

True enough about having created a nightmare. However, the EU countries have navies, but the muzzies don't. Load 'em up on ships, and dump 'em off on a coast somewhere in camel land.
I do not fear Germans or Japanese, even those who practice Shinto or were raised as Hitler Youth. While some military figures tried to fight the long lost war, most moved on and realized that their goal of conquering a global empire for a thousand years was ended.
Even the neo-nazis of today pose little threat; except for the muslim nazis who PARTNERED with Hitler's Germany. Their antisemitism is unabated and they do strike out at men, women, and children.
I asked in this thread about Mecca. When will the same pressure be brought to bear on Saudi Arabia that was brought down on South Africa with worldwide scorn over discrimination? What about religious freedom?
I saw the city of Mecca compared to a Mormon church. There are nations that Jews are not permitted to enter. Theocratic rule means that Islam IS political as well as religious.
I don't have to tolerate the politics of Nazis or Communists. I may not call for war against these nations but I can speak out against the opression in such nations. When the nations wage war on my nation, we can strike back.
There are nations that sponsor international terrorism. Saddam Hussein's Iraq was one such nation. Lebanon's blind eye to Hezbollah is another. War on a nation is a justified response in some instances. You are with us or with the terrorists.
I knew on 9-11-2001 that we were plunged into a war that would last a long time and possibly my entire lifetime. Such actions cannot be permitted to stand without a response. And we did exercise caution and did not launch random attacks immediately. I fear that President Gore would have launched some missiles someplace to show that he was not weak.
I came to bible reading late and was totally amazed the first time I read this!
Agreed.
I concur.
many immigrants might perceive a victory of the indigenous right (as opposed to their own far-right) as an insult,
Proof once again that the civilized world live only to insult Muslims. Now even election results are an insult.
JEEZ!!!!!! When will we wake up and challenge these cockroaches without apology and without fear that we might "insult" them?
They cannot be sent to their parents home countries.
How about jail? But then I guess that would insult them too.
islamophobia = the "irrational" fear of muslims
I'd say there is nothing irrational here.
I know. I was attempting to mock those appeasers who think they're being tolerant or sophisticated when they riducule the legitimate fear of deadly Islamofacists by naming it "Islamophobia" - as if by lumping it in with the irrational phobias they would somehow convince us that it's okay to let our heads be sawed off.
"People of Europe: WAKE UP!!!!!!! "
some of us here in the UK have; the impression I have is that us, together with the govt are viewed as either paranoid or racists
It is no less ambiguous nor more violent than certain offenting books in the Bible.
I noted similarities. Doing so does not an equation make.
(and tossed in Christian history as well, still not sure what the "25 years ago" thing meant)
I said nothing about Christian history. I said Europeans have been slaughtering in the name of God, which is true. It is a violent continent.
Why do you focus on the WORDS of people on the internet, ignoring the very real actual slaughter and military aggression by Muslims, which has been going on for 1400 years up until the present day? Why don't you criticize that?
I do criticize that. I don't limit my criticisms to that. And in this forum, one more poster chiming in with "religion of peace my ass!!!!" won't add anything to the discussion.
You claim that such behavior is not "real Muslim" or not done by "real Muslims". Then why in their madrassahs and mosques is violent jihad fomented?
They have strayed from the righteous path and are mired in the error of hate.
It must be hard for you to watch a baseketball game knowing that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar could AT ANY MOMENT! leap from the pressbox and behead a vendor.
Ahhhh makes me hum the song from "Fiddler on the Roof", Tradition.
Yup!
Very Holy thing to do, *riot*.
And failure to capitalize "Ramadan", well, all things being equal?
...spells certain disaster. ;^)
Part of it is because Osama wants a war between Islam and the non-Muslim world and his allies in the Nuke Mecca Crowd are most happy to follow his orders and spout innanities that make ordinary Muslims think that the war on terror (such as killing radical terrorists) is a war on Islam (such as Nuking Mecca), despite what our President and all right-thinking people believe.
There's another problem: a neo-fascist movement. If responsible politicians are unwilling to address a non-PC problem, then irresponsible politicians take it on.
