Sen. Hillary Clinton has spoken up in support of her husband Bills defense of his anti-terror efforts, saying shes tired of Democrats being pushed around on national security issues.
"I just think that my husband did a great job in demonstrating that Democrats are not going to take this, she said on Monday in remarks reported by Newsday.
In a heated discussion with Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday, Bill Clinton said that as president, he did more than many of his conservative critics to pursue al-Qaida, and alleged that President Bush didnt try to stop terrorism in the eight months of his presidency before the 9/11 attacks.
Hillary agreed, adding: "All you have to do is read the 9/11 commission. I thought all he did was state what had been repeatedly found in the various studies that have taken place.
Hillary continued: "I'm certain that if my husband and his national security team had been shown a classified report entitled 'Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States,'" Clinton said, "he would have taken it more seriously than history suggests it was taken by our current president and his national security team."
Curiously, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also referred to the commission in ripping Clintons claims and defending the Bush administrations efforts against terrorism: "I would just suggest that you go back and read the 9/11 commission report on the efforts of the Bush administration in the eight months . . .
"The notion somehow for eight months the Bush administration sat there and didnt do that is just flatly false and I think the 9/11 commission understood that.
In any case, even conservatives like Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol see political benefits in Clintons headline-grabbing counterattack on his critics. He said: "In this interview, Clinton rallied Democrats. He reminded them of their talking points on Bush's alleged passivity in his first eight months in office . . .
"If the Bush-Rove war-on-terror offensive stalls out this week . . . and Democrats do well in November, Bill Clinton can take credit, at a crucial moment, for discrediting the terror issue as a mere political ploy, and showing Democrats how to fight back.
"Won't be pushed around"???
Remember when he showed up on TV with that big black eye she gave him?

I overheard two women at a meeting this morning talking about how great it was to watch Bill take down that reporter. I had to rapidly excuse myself for the ladies room so I could laugh out loud. What a joke!
Okay Hillary, how about if your husband got a classified report entitled 'Bin Ladin Preparing to Hijack US Aircraft and Other Attacks'?? You know, like the one he got in 1998.

SUBJECT: Bin Ladin Preparing to Hijack US Aircraft and Other Attacks
1. Reporting [-] suggests Bin Ladin and his allies are preparing for attacks in the US, including an aircraft hijacking to obtain the release of Shaykh Umar Abd al-Rahman, Ramzi Yousef, and Muhammad Sadiq Awda. One source quoted a senior member of the Gamaat al-Islamiyya (IG) saying that, as of late October, the IG had completed planning for an operation in the US on behalf of Bin Ladin, but that the operation was on hold.A senior Bin Ladin operative from Saudi Arabia was to visit IG counterparts in the US soon thereafter to discuss options-perhaps including an aircraft hijacking. IG leader Islambuli in late September was planning to hijack a US airliner during the next couple of weeks to free Abd al-Rahman and the other prisoners, according to what may be a different source. The same source late last month said that Bin Ladin might implement plans to hijack US aircraft before the beginning of Ramadan on 20 December and that two members of the operational team had evaded security checks during a recent trial run at an unidentified New York airport. [-]
2. Some members of the Bin Ladin network have received hijack training, according to various sources, but no group directly tied to Bin Ladins al-Qaida organization has ever carried out an aircraft hijacking.Bin Ladin could be weighing other types of operations against US aircraft.Accord-ing to [-] the IG in October obtained SA-7 missiles and intended to move them from Yemen into Saudi Arabia to shoot down an Egyptian plane or, if unsuccessful, a US military or civilian aircraft. A [-] in October told us that unspecified extremist elements in Yemen had acquired SA-7s. [-]
3. [-] indicate the Bin Ladin organization or its allies are moving closer to implementing anti-US attacks at unspecified locations, but we do not know whether they are related to attacks on aircraft. A Bin Ladin associate in Sudan late last month told a colleague in Kandahar that he had shipped a group of containers to Afghanistan. Bin Ladin associates also talked about the movement of containers to Afghanistan before the East Africa bombings. In other [-] Bin Ladin associates last month discussed picking up a package in Malaysia. One told his colleague in Malaysia that they were in the ninth month [of pregnancy]. An alleged Bin Ladin supporter in Yemen late last month remarked to his mother that he planned to work in commerce from abroad and said his impending marriage, which would take place soon, would be a surprise."Commerce and marriage often are codewords for terrorist attacks. [-]
Oh please. Any man who "won't be pushed around" would not have stayed married to Hillary this long.............
Respectfully, To say this was part of a grand strategery seem to me similar to those who said that letting our troops into Baghdad was part of Saddams master plan to lure them in and then spring his trap on em.
You might be right in that they planned it. But I believe Bill's over the top performance wasn't what they were going for and it will overshadow his wagging finger "I did not have sexual relations ..." speach before its all over.
It won't do him any good. My thoughts on Clinton Tough on Terror: A False Legacy
If he did such a great job why is The Wicked Witch of NY out 48 hrs doing damage control? Sounds like the lady in pink interview. Mrs Clinton, Cleanup on aisle 4!
That made them look tough on terrorism? In what way, having a meltdown on nationwide TV?
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
And that incessant HEAD BOBBING
"How could such a poor example of a man have become President - TWICE?"
Ross Perot and Bob Dole!
[Bill Wont Be Pushed Around ]
She found out that you don't move a chain by pushing it.
I'm certain that if my husband and his national security team had been shown a classified report entitled 'Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States,'" Clinton said, "he would have taken it more seriously than history suggests it was taken by our current president and his national security team."
"Bill can only be pushed around by Hillary. Hillary and Arab terrorists. But he's more afraid of Hillary."
He can be used by interns however, he will throw them around when he is done with them.
...except by ME!"
What was the explosion in the car garage of the World Trade Center in 1993 (?). I think there were some muslims involved in that piece of demolition work. I even remember the muslims surrounding the blind muslim shiek, the leader of the gang. Now if that was not an attack on the United States by muslim foreigners, I don't know what to call it.
