HARDY, Va. - If Republicans decide to replicate the style and substance of President Bush when nominating a potential successor in 2008, they will likely choose another conservative named George.
George Allen, that is, the junior senator from Virginia, who agrees with Bush on most major issues. On their few points of disagreement, such as immigration and campaign finance, Allen sides with the more conservative Republicans who will dominate primary election voting.
I like him very much I consider him a friend, Allen says of Bush in an interview with The Examiner. And I know a lot of people like to criticize him. We even have Republicans distancing themselves from him because his approval ratings are in the 30s.

See John Fund's puff-piece in the Wall Street Journal yesterday. :-)
Absolutely agree with your opinion. The fact that the Dems with the WaPo and Channel 9 carrying their offal have been attacking him in the nastiest race baiting campaign this year. It is only seconded by the Jew baiting going on in Conn against Lieberman. I wonder when liberals will turn on their own? If they had any standards Sen Byrd would be retired. Since we are now evaluating allegations of Allen speech in college I am awaiting quotes regarding Webb to be made public. I am sure that the WaPo is investigating Webb to assure us he has never used the N word and has no Jewish blood in his background. The WaPo once again reveals its true self.
I meant as a comment in this thread, but thanks....I'll check it out.
"IMO someone like Ga Gov. Sonny Perdue would be better."
In the realm of southern governors, I'd go for South Carolina's Mark Sanford. Not Sonny "tobacco tax increase" Perdue.
The perfect candidate for either party then.
Many of his contemporaries thought he was quite the bumbler - especially as a General. But he did win in the end by just keeping the Army together (thank you France) and had the good sense to step down after 2 years as the first President.
Lucky my okole. Webb has little to no chance of unseating Allen. This smear campaign (and that's exactly what it is) is all about 2008.
That 'esteemed political commentator', Larry Sabato, is even jumping on the bandwagon. The MSM cites him as a classmate of Allen at the University of Virginia. He even admits that he has NEVER heard Allen use the "N" word, yet he says he cannot believe that Allen has never used it--and the media still cites him as corroboration for the politically motivated racial hucksterism being tossed around like another Clintonesque cow chip. For a supposedly enlightened member of the academic elite, Sabato isn't doing much to enhance his credibility.
You are a Rat troll. Begone!
Do we really want to hear about his divorce and affairs YET AGAIN? And yes, the muddled middle will just yawn about Newt even if it would be fun to see the left go bonkers (yet again).
Americans are also tired of senators running for President, either party.
I agree with you 100%.
Allen was Governor of Virginia from '94 - '98.
As an Allen constituent I had hopes for him, but he has been faltering and I'm not sure he can pull himself out of the recent "racist" quagmire. It would take some time and a different approach on his part.
However there is time left and perhaps he'll rise to the occasion.
I'd still like to see an Allen/Rice Republican ticket for 2008.
Nope...more like a RAT trapper and a "Shrubcon" zapper!
"nastiest race baiting campaign this year."
That piece about him using the N word was absurd. Three "remembered" him using it and (IIRC) 14 did not.
As for his Jewish ancestry, I believe that started with the Wash Times and not the Post. And Allen dealt with it ineptly.
The long knives are out for Allen, because he represents the biggest threat in a generation to Democrats.
He will emerge from the unbalanced recent attacks stronger, and will resume his infamous bold assaults on Democrats.
Allen once said "Let's enjoy knocking their soft teeth down their whiny mouths" about Democrats.
Senator Allen is Freeper material, folks, and will be the next President of the United States.
