Military coup leaders in Thailand often called the "Land of Smiles" apparently don't want to ruin that image. They've ordered soldiers to smile.
Army radio broadcasts are reminding soldiers to be friendly and courteous, especially to children and anyone who wants to take pictures with them...

After a coup like this took place, I started to wonder if something like that could happen here. My answer was no. I also did a google search for some type of discussion to see whether a coup could ever happen here. Hadn't you heard, for just under six years the Democrats have been insisting that a coup has taken place in the U.S.?
Oh, yeah. I remember back in '72 there was a picture in one of the Bankok English papers of some guy who'd just been sentenced to a firing squad... and he was smiling.
