He said Muslims had never apologized for this...

Nor will they. They want it back. Andalusia was and is considered by Muslim scholars to be a part of Daar al-Islam and nothing once theirs is ever legitimately otherwise, including worshippers.

Does anyone have an idea why muslim warriors never have been succesful in trying to conquer germanic (anglosaxon/scandinavian/german/dutch) soil?

They tried to take Vienna numerous times, but were defeated each time.

I'm sure that fact wasn't lost on Osama. The Muslims' last chance to take Vienna was lost in the Battle of Vienna, which began on Sept. 11, 1683.

Muslim aggression was stopped the first time at the Battle of Tours (now France) by Charles Martel (Hammer) in 732AD.

The Serbs also stopped their advance in later years. The 1389AD battle is still celebrated even though it was actually a loss. The Islamic battle leader was killed by a Serb there.

Determination and a refusal to compromise can win the day.

Vlad the Impaler in Romania got his fearsome reputation by his willingness to do whatever it took to fight the invading Turks.

This is all new to me and I wouldn't be surprised if I one day found it all to be relly intriguing. Please post links etc. in this thread.

However, the bottom line remains the same: The way you manage to communicate with a nation as its leader will always determine your actual success. You can not fail in this respect and still lead a nation.

On the other hand, nations are sometimes in a state where national leadership is impossible.

As a EU citizen, I feel we can't afford to let a major european nation go down in a trench war of accusations, restlessness and hatred.

ETA and Al-Qaeda will not remain forever.

Europe will.

Just being vikings...

Not just the vikings. Eggs & bunnies are pagan fertility symbols. Christmas trees, mistletoe, holly & Yule logs also originate in pagan beliefs. Both holidays are celebrated around a solstice. Rather than replacing Germanic paganism, Christianity borrowed the pagan holidays... close enough was good enough.

Herring, blech & yes, it's always served in my home on holidays. It's available with both wine & some kind of creamy white sauce in my area.

Aznar was never a good communicator. He wasn't particularly comfortable with the role, and furthermore, the press was always hostile to him. He followed Felipe Gonzalez, the Spanish equivalent of Bill Clinton - very popular, no substance, corrupt, and adored by the media - so it was a real contrast. However, his performance was good enough for him to be reelected by a huge majority. Anzar's party was viewed favorably, and they were projected to win until the bombings - the reason the nutty Zapatero was chosen to run was because the Socialists didn't want to waste a good candidate on an election they expected to lose. So he was kind of an accidental candidate and an accidental winner.

I'm glad Aznar is still out there saying things and speaking the truth!

As much as I like Aznar, his defeat was not surprising. He supported the Iraq war when somethink like 90% of the people opposed it. And his government made a huge mistake in initially blaming the Basques for the Madrid bombings, when they had never done anything like that before. When you combine those factors, you're going to lose.

However, with Zapatero's immigrant amnesty plan blowing up in his face, with exacerbation of the immigrant problem, it is not a stretch to see some sort of Rightist coalition coming back into power.

ETA blew up a supermarket in Barcelona and killed about 25 people who were just buying their groceries, and ETA members have often tried to kill larger numbers but have never succeeded, partly because they never want to risk their own lives.

March 11 was the perfect storm: ETA technology and materials combined with off-the-wall Muslim lunacy. One of the reasons it was originally attributed to ETA was that none of the bombers died in the bombings; they left the bombs in knapsacks and got off the train (the ETA technique), unlike the London bombers, who blew themselves up. You could say the latter were more classically Muslim, I guess.

"Spain you suck for voting him out!"

Aznar never should have blamed the islamist attack on the Basque separatists during the election. That did him in.

Thank you for the information.

There are several nations who have this kind of problem.

I guess we can all agree spanish/swedish/british/american etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc media of today is hijacked by the insane remnants of the 1968-movement.

The answer on how to solve this situation as well as to end other insanities throughout Europe is not to wish for a "Strong Man" like europeans once desired and received leaders like Hitler, Mussolini or Franco.

The answer is being a strong man/woman yourself and keep defending western values at all points.

Viva España!

Aznar:“Muslims should apologize for occupying Spain for 800 years”

Sorry Aznar.
The Muslims are too busy with their reconquista of Al-Andalus.
With the help of your Socialist prime minister, nattily attired
with the Palestinian-tablecloth kerchief.

I agree, it's not good to look for a "strong man," but actually, Europe is so demoralized I doubt that they could even produce one. I think Spain will come to its senses (Catholicism is strengthening, and nobody except the truly loony left is fond of Zapatero) and end up on the right side. Viva España!

Aznar ran for re-election in 2004 and was narrowly defeated by the socialists. His administration had blamed the train bombing on the Basque separatists. This was disproven before election day and led to his fall from power.

Actually, it was Aznar's successor, Mariano Rajoy, who failed to gain/retain a parliamentary majority. We all know why.

Believe Spain has no constitutional 8-year limit for their prime minister. Felipe Gonzalez, also from the PSOE (Socialists) was the PM from 1982-1996.
