How the Spaniards could turn this guy out in favor of the doofus currently in charge baffles me. Aznar gets it. Moreso than most of our American politicians.

If two good men can agree demorilization ought to be dealt with, much can be done!

Rebuilding Europe is a great task that lay ahead of us.

I too believe Spain (and the rest of Europe) will come to its senses.

From Scandinavia in the north to Spain in the south, from Ireland in the west to Russia in the east...

Aznar's party ran in 2004. Aznar was not the candidate. He was going into private life.

Go back and check the media links from Spain at that time. Aznar was not running.

believe me, Spain has *really* gone downhill since he left. Spain was my favorite country in Europe, a sense of movement and progress. i went through there last year after about a five year absence and the change was marked. even the airport seems tacky and run down, more like the airports in eastern europe used to be...

It appears to me that the Pope has broken something loose here. I believe that he has breached the political correctness barrier and many are going to follow suit.

Well, they can START with Spain. But how about Turkey? Occupied for 900 years now, and still going.

Oops, you're right, MM. My bad. It was Rajoy who took the consequences, not Aznar.

Sorry for getting off-topic, but do you think should Turkey be allowed to join the EU?

My answer would be yes.

Correction:

It was supposed to read:

Sorry for getting off-topic, but do you think Turkey should be allowed to join the EU?

Doesn't membership in the EU provide for the free unrestricted flow of labor among member countries?

"Doesn't membership in the EU provide for the free unrestricted flow of labor among member countries?"

Yes it does.

Still, I'm slightly in favor of letting Turkey in, but I haven't really made up my mind on this.

I can see the problems ahead.

Europe has received millions of non-european refugees/immigrants over the last decades and in several countries native inhabitants feel too many immigrants have been allowed.

However, Turkish economy is presently developing in the right direction (resulting in a lesser amount of people wishing to emmigrate) and furthermore I'd say turks have a very sound attitude towards The West - contrary to, for instance, pakistan mobs (while not wishing to say all pakistans are alike).

Call me an intolerant bigot, but I'd view any policy that allowed large numbers of muslims in to my country with an extremely jaundiced eye. Economies ebb and flow and many muslims view their faith as the predominant consideration.

Then, what would you call a deal which didn't result in huge numbers of muslims coming to your country and which still lead to an even more profitable trade that both parts gained from?

And again, I whish to point out that few turks are radical islamists.
Turks even drink alcohol and believe in hard work (in contrast to uneducated, West hating muslims).

A comprehensive bilateral trade agreement? There are other, less risky ways to benefit Turkey & the EU than one that treats Turkey as if its history and culture are no different than that of other nations on the European continent.

Look at your history with the Turks. How much has really changed and can you afford to assume it has?

There will be no correcting mistakes, once made.

"Look at your history with the Turks. How much has really changed and can you afford to assume it has?"

Well what IS our history with the turks?

Once we were allies (in the early 18th century), aiming to defeat Russian once and for all, but the whole project never got off to a good start.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_XII_of_Sweden

Today, some turks live in Sweden and most of them behave in a very decent way.

If I'd have to single out a specific muslim ethnic group that I like the best, the turks would be ranking high on my list.
They're disciplined, in general law-abiding and they don't despise performance of hard work in the manner brainwashed islamofascists do.

I am referring to the EU in general, not Sweden in particular. The rest of Europe, notably Greece, portions of Italy, the Balkans and Austria, haven't fared nearly as well in their relations with the Turks.

islam is a mental disorder

mohammad was a pedophile

allah doesn't exist

This is a cultural war between the free people of the west and the slaves of islam, We have to kill them or they will kill us. When this is finished there will either be no mulims on this planet or no rational human beings.
