Bill Cosby on Friday called on each American to contribute $8 to help build a national slavery museum amid the battlefields of the Civil War.

Cosby, who already has committed $1 million to the project, joined Richmond Mayor L. Douglas Wilder on Friday in launching a new campaign to raise $100 million toward the Fredericksburg museum's $200 million price tag.

I'll look it back up and get back to you. BTW good to hear you again; it's been a while. I've mostly been busy with the Islamic question the past few years and growing family.

Best,

Van

"If this happens Bill, just make certain that it is clear that the NORTH did not engage in that WAR to end slavery.
"

And that Blacks were the ones who sold other blacks into slavery.

My ancestor was a member of the US Cavalry during the Civil War and owned slaves. My five ancestors that fought for the Confederacy didn't. If the issue early in the war would have been slavery, the North wouldn't have gotten a regiment off the ground.

The Constitution of the CSA made buying/selling/owning other human beings a 'right'. Not much more to say after that.

So how long did the US Constitution address the issue of slavery specifically and how was the US Constitution superior to the Confederate Constitution?

How many slave museums are needed. The one in Cincinnati is dead broke and looking for $3 million from the city to stay open.

Yeah ... and and it has only been open a couple of years. There's another museum, along the same line, in Detroit, which celebrates black history and it too is now subsidized heavily by tax monies.
The Freedom Center in Cincinnati was expected to be self sustaining, according to reports in the early stages of its development. To say most tax payers were skeptical is an understatement ... most gave it maybe 5 years before local tax payers would be subsidizing it ... they were wrong, only a little over two years have gone by and the much put upon tax payer is having his/her wallet picked. So predictable ...

Conservative estimates are 65,000 and they served PRIOR to 1865...

Here is a Link to the 1860 census information. If you look at it you will find that there were, at best, about 22,000 free black men of military age in all the confederacy. So...did each of them enlist three times?

Think my grandfather and his fellow mine workers deserve a musuem for "working for the company store" (not a far cry from slavery). How about sending me $8 Mr. Cosby so I can get one started?

I'm also planning one in Egypt for the Israelites - might need more money for that one (bomb-proofing, and all that).

Better yet, Bill, why don't you spend your own money to travel to the Sudan to stop slavery going on at this very moment?

I agree with you NS. This isnt' a tax it's a call for a contribution but SOME people automatically get all defensive.

Not sure who the person was that stated earlier in the thread that a museum should be built for white ppl who have paid for social programs. I hope that person was just kidding. After all lots of non white have seen their money taken away to pay for failing social programs that are set up to "help" not just blacks as was implied but all people who need to be out there working.

The South fought for the issue of states' rights.

Yeah, the State Right to keep slaves.

Unfortunately they put the place in the most valuable piece of property in Cincinnati, right between the stadiums on the river.
Bill Cunningham, a talk show host in Cincy made the suggestion that the taxpayers should get to vote on the money and afterward when the vote goes down in flames make the place a Casino.

To level the playing in proportion to wealth, Bill, hows about everyone else donating one dollar for each million that you donate.

Specifically, the 'right' to own slaves.

Wrong. Read you U.S. History. The North was imposing high tariffs on the South, and that SPECIFACALLY was the reason for the war.

Wrong. Read you U.S. History. The North was imposing high tariffs on the South, and that was the main reason for the war. It is surprising how many people have been sucked into the indoctrination from their public school history lessons to believe that the main reason for the Civil War was slavery. Feels good, sounds good but it's a lie.

Probably more relevant to our history than a holocaust museum.

$8 from everone would raise $3.2 BILLION. I guess the poverty pimps get the difference between that and the actual cost of construction.
