Results of SurveyUSA Election Poll #10313 |
Hayworth Leads by 12 in AZ5: In an election in Arizona's 5th Congressional District today, 9/18/05, incumbent Republican J.D. Hayworth tops Democrat Harry Mitchell, 52% to 40%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KPNX-TV Phoenix. 7 weeks to the 11/7/06 election, Hayworth gets 52% of the vote. Mitchell gets 40%. Libertarian Warren Severin gets 4%. Hayworth gets 83% of Republican votes. Mitchell gets 84% of Democrat votes. Mitchell carries Independents 5:3, but this is not enough to overcome Hayworth's advantage in this heavily Republican district. Mitchell runs strongest among seniors, middle-income voters, and the most educated voters. Of those who approve of President George W. Bush's performance in office, 89% choose Hayworth. 74% of those who disapprove of Bush choose Mitchell. President Bush's approval rating among likely voters in Arizona's 5th Congressional District is 47%. Hayworth was first elected to the U.S. Congress in 1994. |
Filtering: 800 Registered Voters from Arizona's 5th Congressional District were interviewed 9/15/06 - 9/17/06. Of them, 590 were judged to be "likely voters." Crosstabs reflect Likely Voters. |

As I said early in the year, he was never in any trouble, and would win double digits.
If you are a republican winning by 12 the MSM will consider this a tight race
To the antique media this race will still be a tossup even after
Hayworth smokes his opponent by over 15 points.
This is what the Democrat leadership and their mouthpieces in the MSM call a "toss up race." Hayworth is extremely popular among his constiuency (he could have been the Governor this year if he wanted the job). He will win big just as he has the last 3 times the media said his seat was up for grabs. He is a hard core conservative and the media can't accept the fact that in some parts of the country that is big draw.
And now he's MY guy! Used to be Shadegg and I liked him too!
I wish J.D. was running for the Senate seat instead against McVain. Arizona deserves two senators representing them and not just Jon Kyl having to do it all himself while McVain is looking out for the Dems and the MSM (and now Al Qaeda).
Rothenberg has Hayworth as Lean Republican. So does Cook. So does Sabato.
I don't know of anyone calling AZ-05 a tossup.
