Time magazine reported that the U.S. is hypothetically preparing for an armed conflict with Iran. The magazine asserted that the U.S. Army is preparing an air strike plan of 1,500 targets.
Based on information received from U.S. military authorities, Time magazine reported the Pentagons war plan prepared specifically for attacks to be waged against Iran. While continuing its diplomatic efforts to ensure the imposition of sanctions against Iran, the U.S. is also making preparations for a probable military intervention.
Time also wrote that the Army had been asked to be fully prepared by October 1, while the Pentagon continues works on military strategies for a probable operation against Iran.
It has been reported that Bushs cabinet, including Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, strongly favored a diplomatic resolution regarding the issue of Irans nuclear ambitions.
Experts and diplomats from the U.S., Iran, and the Middle East hold different views on the probability of U.S. military intervention in Iran. While some argue that a military intervention would serve American interests, others warn that its cost to the U.S. economy would be enormous.
In the debate, the question as to whether military intervention in Iran is more dangerous than cohabitating with a nuclear Iran stands out. Stating that they preferred the continuation of negotiations, an official from the U.S. administration however implied that the administration has not ruled out a military option. The official further said: Nobody is considering a military operation right now. We are simply trying to create the best environment and conditions for a future military intervention, in case President Bush chooses between a nuclear Iran and waging war. The officials statement suggests that the U.S. has not excluded a military campaign against Iran and that it wants to be ready if the decision to take action is taken.
According to Time, the main objective of such an intervention would be to delay Irans development of nuclear weapons. The magazine also stressed the operation would be limited to air strikes, and would not include any ground invasion.
Any such operation is predicted to last a couple of days and target over 1,500 pre-determined sites. The magazine reported that the U.S. would mainly target nuclear facilities, most of which were still undetermined. The operation will presumably delay Irans plans to develop nuclear weapons for two or three years.
If this is true, the leakers should be rounded up and publicly executed!
I'm sure we have a plan in place to attack every nation on this planet. It would stupid not to.
Damn hypothetically /tear
I wonder how the Weenie Boys (and Bruiser Girls) at Time and Newsweek will adjust when the Islamo-fascists arrive at their offices in the name of the ruling mullahs of the Islamic Republic of America, take away their pink neckties (boys), and their comfortable pants suits (girls), get out the headtowels and the burkhas, and begin the "re-education program" that will "assist" them in converting into full and proper "Islamic Journalists" ?
About the only delicious fantasy associated with the coming jihad.
Why would the US want to attack us?
How in the hell does the NYT let itself get scooped on such a treasonous leak? Heads will roll in the NYT for letting this one get away.
The simple fact of the matter is that the U.S. has plans on the table for almost every conceivable contingency right down to how the US might react if the Grand Poobah of Bamboozlestan were to cut herself while shaving her elbows during the annual run of the Albino Aardvarks, 99.9999% of those plans will never ever be needed.
"Grand Poobah of Bamboozlestan"
Is that just north of Elbonia?
I'm sure we have a plan in place to attack every nation on this planet. It would stupid not to.

Bingo!!! There are a bunch of high ranking officers sitting around in a room dreaming up ways to attack other countries. And guess what there will be as long as the U.S. has a military.
Yes, unless the leaks are disinformation or deliberately released to intimidate or confuse the lunatics over there.
If I wanted to make sure some information was released to as many listeners as possible, I'd tell a TIMES reporter and ask them not to release it as American safety and security depended on keeping it secret.
Dilbert is an awesome strip.
Not your country, just your stingrays.
Having their ties and pants suits taken away would be the least of their worries. Islamists have a special reward for atheists.
Axtually, it's more like 6,000 targets.
And Iran, in turn, is preparing staged pictures of injured civilians and demolished hospitals and orphanages.
Living in the DC area you couldn't throw a rock without a chance of hitting a Colonel or higher. They have to be doing SOMETHING all day.
Maybe the plans are fresher and more detailed for Iran than say, Mongolia. We probably have a plan somewhere on how to conquer Vatican City.
I don't think Steve would be completely happy with that...
