They are asserting the only ‘morality’ they have—the will to power.

Excellent analysis.

"The Islamist reaction proves Manuel II’s 600-year-old point. The reaction is not one of anger but a calculated attempt to force the Pope to parrot the PC line on Islam. Since Islam need not be internally consistent and it is not bound by reason, it’s only objective can be to assert the power of a God who is so transcendent that He is not bound by anything. If man is created in God’s image then by extension Islamic man is not bound by anything. (This explains the predilection on the part of some Muslims to lie.) Islamists are not responding to any ‘offense’ to their non-existent morality. They are asserting the only ‘morality’ they have—the will to power. "

Says it all!

Very powerful insight.

Times continues: “Muslim leaders the world over have demanded apologies… For many Muslims, holy war — jihad — is a spiritual struggle, and not a call to violence.”

So why do they commit violence, then, if it's not a call to violence?

The Pope's address (the one delivered on Sept. 12) can be found a lot of places, but here's one off-hand: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/speeches/2006/september/documents/hf_ben-xvi_spe_20060912_university-regensburg_en.html
Just cut and paste it into your browser window if it's not clickable. It's on the Vatican website. Somebody else may know a shorter address, and I think it's also been posted on FR a couple of times.

No wonder that the jihadists haven't read Rodney Stark's classical book The Victory of Reason. How Christianity Led to Freedom, Capitalism and Western Success, but their arse-lickers in the slimestream media and other liberal quarters should know best.

There is nothing knew in the theological view of reason as the main foundation of Judeo-Christian grasp of G-d. So what is all that fuss about?

On a little bit different wave: there are more than a billion Catholics out there... I hope the muzzies' attacks on the Pope will encounter some robust reaction this time.

"Religion of Peace My Arse BUMP!

Too bad President Bush isn't a FReeper.

I'm in complete solidarity with the statement by Byzantine Emperor Manuel II and quoted by Pope Benedict.

There should be a "Islam ... Religion of Peace My Arse" enlistment form somewhere. Maybe there is room for a third political party in our nation, the Crusaders!

The Muzzies go ballistic whenever anyone criticizes their El Supremo. They virtually worship this evil Muhammad and will not tolerate any infidel speaking ill of him. Muzzies are trying to create a climate of fear and intimidation where people will be afraid to draw cartoons of Mo or speak about him critically

"So why do they commit violence, then, if it's not a call to violence?"

For that matter, why increase Vatican security if you think Islam doesn't resort to violence?

The call for an apology is just the first step. Next after an apology is given will be a demand that the Pope convert to Islam to prevent widespread riots. After all Christianity isn't a serious religion in their eyes.
