RIVERSIDE — An event billed as an educational forum about federal immigration law quickly became a rally against illegal immigration yesterday as speakers decried an “invasion” of illegal immigrants and warned a second Civil War is brewing.
Addressing a supportive crowd of about 30 at Spring Garden Park, speakers from the Federation for American Immigration Reform, Connecticut Citizens for Immigration Control and the Buchanan 2008 Campaign — a grassroots effort to convince political pundit Pat Buchanan, who famously called for a wall to be built along the U.S.-Mexico border, to run for president — blamed illegal immigrants for driving down wages and sucking up welfare.
The angriest rhetoric came from Miguel Cruz and Carmen Morales of You Don't Speak for Me, American Hispanic Voices Speaking Out Against Illegal Immigration, who condemned illegal immigrants for ineffectual schools, debasing U.S. culture and bastardizing the English language.
“Go back to where you came from,” Morales said. “You are not citizens. You don't belong here.”
Standing in a pavilion draped with American flags, Cruz was even more strident, calling illegal immigrants murderers, rapists, child molesters, gang members and illiterate carriers of disease.
To those who disagree, Cruz said, “You are racists; you are traitors because you hate America. To some of us, it smells like there is a civil war approaching and this American is ready.”
“I haven't seen such hate since the March on Selma,” said Dave Verduin, the president of a coalition of local business owners and landlords opposed to Riverside's recently enacted anti-illegal immigrant ordinance. “I came because they said it would be a non-partisan forum. This is misinformation; they said it would be educational.”

This is how legal immigrants really feel. I wish more of us would get to know them. They are the ones that hire lawyers to run the paperwork around to become resident aliens on a path to citizenship. Passports, visas with a work permit, etc. I know one that got the red-carpet treatment because she is a head nurse- 3 months to get the work permit attachment for her visa. And 6 months to get a green card. Driving to her hospital on an int'l drivers license. Half her family is here and they are all professional people.
These are ready-for-the-microwave Republican voters! They feel ignored by both parties. We walked around the Reagan library in Simi Valley for about 5 hours. It isn't a library anymore. It is a very large museum. I wanted to get close to the F-14 parked outside near where Reagan's Presidential jet was inside the nice big hanger. She wanted to read and see eveything. Next time. Get there early with your wife because women love the place.

Though I don't think I've blindly assumed folks could be persuaded by satire and hostility, per se . . . I have assumed with some evidence that SOME folks can at least be arrested in their glib cluelessness enough to sit up and MAYBE BEGIN to realize that someone has slipped a shark-in-disguise into their pet puppy pool.
That is . . . that maybe their pet assumptions about reality MAY NOT really be as accurate and as effective a set of predictors of future realities as they'd been assuming for so long.
I still am torn about satire. I do believe that Christ and Paul and other Biblical authors used it wisely and that it was even God's highest form of love in such cases--especially towards the Pharisees. And, sometimes even authentic saints were awakened by a slap of satire.
Still prayerfully pondering that issue.
Certainly Loving kindness in the conventional sense but especially in The Holy Spirit sense is the first and foremost priority.

I could care less whether this thread is pulled or not, I have no problem with anything I have posted. I think this is a good thread as it shows how some think they can just bully others into shutting up.
I do not allow others to bully me, which seems to be a favorite tactic of you and a few others. You may be able to browbeat some until they quit posting, I don't browbeat well.
If you want me to stop posting to you, then you need to quit posting to me. If you continue to post sarcastic drivel to and about me, I will respond.
