Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented today on the latest Muslim reaction to Pope Benedict XVIs address at Regensburg University on September 12:
It is a mark of a civilized people that they answer discourse they find disagreeable in a rational manner. Sadly, many Muslims are responding to the popes speech in an irrational way, making true dialogue next to impossible. To compare the pope to Hitler, as a high-ranking Turkish official did, is the mark of an uncivilized person. To burn the pope in effigy, as the thugs in Srinagar, India, have done, is also the mark of incivility. Both are classic examples of Muslim overkill.
Ironically, these pathetic examples underscore the central message of the popes address: he was beckoning the world to embrace both faith and reason. Reason unhinged from faith delivers a debased conception of mankind, the result of which has often been violence on a grand scale. But it is also true that faith unhinged from reason is capable of delivering the same outcome. Sadly, this part of the popes message has gone unheard in much of the Islamic world.
Pope Benedict XVI is a brilliant philosopher and theologian. He offers so much to so many, and that is why it is sad to see this kind of reaction. Fortunately, he is also a courageous man, and will not be intimidated from speaking the truth.
Killing over and over--trademark of muslims. That's overkill, right?
Is this the same Mufti that met with Hitler in 1941 and made an agreement to kill the Jews and in return recruited for Hitler's armies? After the war the brave Mufti fled through Germany to Egypt. So what is new with the Arabs and Islam--nothing--they still want to kill the Jews. We best pay attention because I do believe the way to eternity is through the care we take of the chosen ones. Isn't "Land for Peace" giving away the land they were given by the Almighty?
Muslims comparing the Pope to Hitler? Now that is rich! PLEASE!
Not Catholic, but I like this Pope. I think this is the first step to waking the sleeping Western giant to the terrible danger of islam. In the same speech, he urged the West to embrace (re-embrace?) Christianity.
He also once said that he thinks that Islam is not reformable.
Go Benedict! (But keep your head down)
When someone makes that comparison it's to cover over their own nazism.
Actually it sounds just like mohammed.
Maybe because Hitler seems good to them? sheesh.
these mooselims should shut up and eat a ham sandwich.
Faith unhinged from reason is exactly what is the problem with those folks. The Pope's message was heard and understood, they just don't like hearing the truth.
Proof that not having a cold beer once in a while can make people crazy.
Yeah, just like him... I agree, it's amazing how ignorant people are concerning Hitler.
How does calling the Pope Hitler fit in with Amanutjob's holocaust denial?
These are the Bosnians Clinton bombed to protect.
Wikipedia: "A crude and approximate statement of Benford's law, also called the first-digit law, is that in lists of numbers from many real-life sources of data, the leading digit is 1 almost one-third of the time, and further, larger numbers occur as the leading digit with less and less frequency as they grow in magnitude, to the point that 9 is the leading digit less than one time in twenty."
Love it!
Actually, that's a pretty good question.
The Mufti also helped many Nazis escape to the Middle East, mainly to Egypt and Syria.
Heinrich Himmler had a thing for Islam. He wished Germany was an Islamic nation. Same goes with Adolf Eichmann. Adolf Hitler was said to admire to Islam for its war-like tendencies.
