WASHINGTON -- The Republican donor who helped bankroll the Swift Boat attacks on Democratic Sen. John Kerry's war record has given $5 million to a new group targeting Democratic candidates. Bob J. Perry, a Texas homebuilder with close ties to White House adviser Karl Rove and former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, recently made the hefty donations to the Economic Freedom Fund, a newly created California group.

The group is a so-called 527 that is not subject to conventional campaign finance restrictions and can spend unlimited amounts on election advocacy, similar to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. In the ...

The group is a so-called 527 that is not subject to conventional campaign finance restrictions and can spend unlimited amounts on election advocacy, similar to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. In the 2004 presidential race, the group of Vietnam veterans made unsubstantiated allegations challenging Kerry's record of wartime heroism.

So far, the new group _ which lists Perry as its sole donor _ has spent slightly more than $500,000 on television ads and mailings criticizing Democratic Reps. Jim Marshall of Georgia and Alan Mollohan of West Virginia, according to a disclosure form filed last week with the Federal Election Commission.

Perry's $5 million donation, made in two payments on Aug. 18 and Sept. 5, is among the largest individual donation to any 527 group this year, although contribution records are still being filed. It exceeds the nearly $4.5 million that Perry gave the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth in 2004.

Go Perry, Go Perry!

He should have spent the money helping the Democrats get their message out. That would finish them off in no time. :)

The drive-by media made sure this was right up front in the story so none could miss it. Bet references to Soros and Moveon.org are not quite so prominent in those stories. Wait a minute, are there any DBM stories about Soros?

John "F'n Liar" Kerry, recent said the reason he didn't come out and refute the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, is that he was running out of money...

Yep, one of the richest men in the Senate, ran out of money.
Didn't want to spend his own money to defend his "honor"..

Remember earlier - they explained the didn't respond to the SBVFT, because "Advisors" warned that responding would lend credance to the charges and keep the issue in the news.....

The sonuvabitch even waffles in his freaking lies!

He still has not signed the form 180 to release it to the public. It was released only to a Friendly Boston Press.

Hey John, "what are you hiding?" I have always suspected it is analysis by military intelligence of what he did after he left the Navy and what his original discharge from the Navy was.

I heard today that Hanoi Boi said he's going to kick the Swifties' asses all across the nation. Hanoi Boi may want to be careful, the Swifties are REAL veterans who REALLY served in Vietnam. They were there fighting Communism and weren't just there on a three month junket picking up military medals as souviners.
