President Bush Job Approval (@47%)
Rasmussen ^ | September 14 2006

Posted on 09/14/2006 9:00:46 AM PDT by jmc1969

Forty-seven percent (47%) of American adults approve of the way that President Bush is performing his job. Fifty percent (50%) disapprove. Those are by far the best numbers for the President since mid-February.

The spike is fueled largely by a resurgence of support among the President’s base. Eighty-five percent (85%) of Republicans now offer their approval. At its low point earlier in the year, just 66% of the GOP faithful approved of his job performance.

In January and much of February, the President’s Job Approval ratings were in the mid-40s. Then, they fell sharply and have hovered around 40% ever since. Fifty percent (50%) of men and 44% of women now say they somewhat or strongly approve of the President’s performance. Overall, 24% of Americans Strongly Approve and 38% Strongly Disapprove.

Since this is just the third day of a bounce, it remains to be seen whether this reflects lasting change or is nothing more than statistical noise. The Rasmussen Reports daily updates are based upon nightly telephone interviews and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. Most of the interviews for today’s update were completed before President Bush’s address to the nation two nights ago. Friday’s results will be the first based entirely upon interviews conducted after the speech and after the 9/11 anniversary.

Great news.

He needs to keep the 'Conservative' vote strong to keep himself above 40%.

I am so sick of hearing about this... over and over... on every MSM news outlet. Isn't there some kidnapped blonde girl they can focus on?

/sarc

I don't care about polls. Up or down doesn't matter. W is doing the right thing in the GWOT regardless of how many people agree.

Wow those numbers are practically soaring. If he keeps going at this rate we'll be wishing he could run again in '08. ;) Actually it's too bad he can't since the rest of the field is not satisfactory, at least as it now stands.

The President has FINALLY started using the 'bully pulpit' to refute the MSM and the democrats. It's about time!!

The President needs to keep on the offensive--touting his huge accomplishments in the WOT!

If he continues, his support will improve even more.

I wonder what Bush's ratings would be if he actually gave a shit about polls like Clinton did?

Get ready for CBS to rush out and do their poll with a tiny sample of 600 people and oversampled with Democrats by about 12%

If Bush stops talking about guest worker programs and a path to citizenship for illegals, his ratings would easily exceed 50% and his conservative base would be rock solid.

I see reaffirmations of the ignorance of the populace with such boring regularity these days that I don't even notice it anymore.

These days? There were reasons the founders instituted a Republic, not a Democracy.

I only trust polls as trend-watchers. If Rasmussen is an outlier, it's nice but not all that important. But I do suspect they'll all eventually show him rising in the public's view as the reality that a Democrat takeover becomes more a possibility.

I disagree with the gasoline price being the only or even most important element of this. As often as people have seen that, how many times does it have to be said--9/11 changed EVERYTHING? We've never seen a President with Bush's continued lukewarm popularity over so long keep Congress through a midterm AND his (close) re-election. If he keeps Congress in his party it, too, will be unprecedented for someone with his poll numbers.

That's not gasoline. It's 9/11.

Fortunately for Republicans, they have Democrats to run against. If they had sane people with any kind of American values as opponents, they'd be finished.

This is a direct reflection of nothing more than the sheeple paying less per gallon at the pump. If it hits 1.99 in late October, he will be at 53%. A graph of his approval rating is an almost reverse of the graph of pump prices. Gas prices
