the networks' evening news programs were only 15 minutes You must be as old as I am. CBS had (prior to Walter Cronkite) Douglas Edwards. Straightforward news in 15 minutes. He was completely deadpan. I don't think I ever saw him smile and he didn't color the news with his own bias, at least as far as I recall, but that was a long time ago.

Is her contract a one or multi year contract? I haven't seen any details on that. The reports just say that she's getting $20 million for the first year.

Completely agree! Bob Schieffer is a communist. I happened to catch his tirade after Bush's speech last night. I wanted to throw a brick at him through the TV.

I'll concede that point but still it's more of marketing the DNC talking points then it is relaying serious information.

Okay, the first question has been answered. It took one week to see Katie go through the floor in ratings. Now I'm waiting to see if the View bottoms out with Rosie. Ewwww...maybe I should have worded that differently. Not that I even care about the View but I am watching to see how long it takes to tank.

They will come to the conclusion that they are not liberal enough. Time to have Walter Cronkite cohost.

Not funny. Is that what you do - go around making fun of things having to do with people's spouses dying? I'm commenting on Couric's live tv colonoscopy.
Kinda jumped the gun there unspun .. I noticed a link up on Unspun with AnnaZ for the following:
Maybe you ought to give it a read ..

The only solution I can offer is for her to go left and serve the "progressive" audience which is being ignored by the MSM.

They'll keep her in the anchor slot for at least a year.
Back in the day....
Bawawawa Walters and Connie Chung got an 'associate' within weeks, IIRC.
Walters may have been only a co-anchor during her short stint. But neither Walters nor Chung was retained at the anchor desk for more than a couple of months.
Even 3rd place for Couric will probably be acceptibe for a while, provided her numbers are in the same range as Rather/Sheiffer's. If she drops too low, I'm betting that her contact has an 'out' clause for CBS.
After a while, CBS might try bringing in a co-anchor (of the male persuasion) and see if that boosts ratings.

If she drops too low, I'm betting that her contact has an 'out' clause for CBS. Les Moonves will take the hit on this one if (when) Katie tanks. He wooed, pursued and bought her. Moonves' only hope is if the entertainment division keeps everything afloat. If it doesn't, Redstone will poleaxe Moonves in a New York minute. Witness how he very publicly executed Tom Cruise and Tom Freston...

Tuned couric in just to see what's happening. She looked like she was rode hard and put away wet.
