Notoriously independent-minded Rhode Island Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee confronts stiff opposition Tuesday in his bid for a second term, the latest race with a moderate targeted by his own party's hard-line critics.
While a total of nine states and Washington, D.C., were holding primary elections, Chafee's race is drawing the most attention as another test of the depth of anti-incumbent sentiment and the erosion of the political middle ground.

In front of my polling place, I will say that there was a big, big sign with the names and pictures, all in a row, of Mr. Ehrlich, Mr. Steele, Mr. White, and James King.
So, any Republican walking in would get the impression that Mr. White had the backing of the party's heavy hitters.

Yikes! I shudder at the thought of Chafing Chaffee being on those committees.
Thats great news because in my precint there were only applebaum signs. The thing is that there are many more registered Republicans in your neck of the woods. I'm just pissed off that the media totaly blacked out the Republican side of the race.

C-Span is advertising that it is covering the Rhode Island primary at 9:00pm this evening. Presumably it is going to be a feed from one of the local stations.

Because if someone will not pull the trigger on even Chafee, then we'll never pull the trigger on anyone. And if that is the lesson learned by conservatives that have been told not to protest the general elections in favor of using primaries, well, they will justifiably feel they have been manipulated.
And the primary argument will become irrelevant in keeping them on the reservation.
This is the second try to oust a Senator. I suspect Lindsey Graham will be next. If Chafee isn't ousted this time, they'll probably give it one more try. If Lindsey doesn't fall in the next challenge, conservatives are very likely to conclude their only alternative IS to sit elections out.

There's another guy, Mike Hellon who ran a bunch of ads on the talk shows. Graf waited until the end. This Hellon guy said all the right things, but sounded like another establishment guy.
The crats have the usual lineup of lunatics, led by a moonbat named Giselle Giffords and a former TV anchorette communist named Patti Weiss. In one of the districts here, I don't know if it's this one, there's a goofball named Bill Johnson who says he's a "traditional Democrat," which to me means he's a Stalinist, but I think he means to say he's old fashioned.
In one of his signboards, the alignment was really off and instead of reading, "It's time to do something about our borders," the ad actually read; "It's time to do something about BILL JOHNSON." Oh I laughed....

My polling place is a church across the street from me. Nobody there. I live in East Tucson.
Graham is from a Red State (SC), we should have a conservative Senator from every Red State. It is a totally different situation.
Rhode Island is about as Blue as the come. Our chances of a Conservative from there are almost zip.

Conservatives will succeed in ousting Lindsay Graham IF AND ONLY IF the conservative challenging him is someone from the Charleston area with substantial name recognition there. The reason is that for the first time in recent history, downcountry South Carolina doesn't have one of its own in the U.S. Senate (Graham is from Anderson, Jim DeMint is from Greenville, both upcountry). A Charleston conservative could call on regional as well as ideological loyalty in a primary against Graham.
But if Graham is challenged from the right from an upcountry conservative, forget it. He has to be from the Charleston/Columbia area.
Forget the party labels, it is never good for a conservative to lose to a liberal. And I would not put it past Chafee to pull a jumpin-jeffords if he ends up being the deciding vote in a 50-50 Senate.

And apparently our chances of even a Liberal Republican are zip, as Chafee has volunteered he's open to changing parties.
He's a Democrat draining RNC funds. He's no different then Bloomberg and I have no respect for either one of them being allowed to claim they are Republicans.
Collins is a Republican. Snowe is a Republican. Liberal, but Republicans.
Chafee is no such thing.
