Witnesses: Gunfire, explosions near U.S. embassy in Damascus
By Haaretz Service and news agencies
Syrian security forces surrounded the U.S. embassy in Damascus early on Tuesday and sealed off the area, witnesses said, adding that heavy gunfire and explosions had been heard in the area.
"It appears that the embassy is coming under attack," one resident in the area told Reuters.
There was no independent confirmation of the initial reports.
Imagaine the blissful innocence we knew growing up ... and how despicable is the loss of a carefree childhood, free from any hint of thoughts of anything like these deadly fears today. Makes me heartsick, the sheer cruelty of the fear of terror these monsters have created for kids. They'll never know childhood like we did.
I would bet a lot would depend on our Cuban expats.
"As far as tobacco & sugar, their past nationalizion of everything makes that a dangerous venture until a "rule of law" is established."
right, though i suspect you would find american multinationals willing to deal for a chance to get into the market, i don't know sugar economics but there is tremendous potential for joint ventures in cuban tobacco once it is given some autonomy from the state on product development and stock aging. it has to be the most mis-run tobacco industry in the western hemisphere with arguably the best base product. kind of like imagining the soviet union running all scotch distilleries for 2 generations.
From roughly 8/20 through 8/30, 2006, the US Embassy on India was under threat of just this kind of attack.
Specifically from Iranian terrorists.
Now we have a "foiled" attack, with Syrian officials claiming credit, all within an hour, start to finish?
The politics and plotting will all sort out in the wash, go US Marines.
Spooky stuff.
The footage inside of the white van mentioned above clearly showed three or four bluish painted steel drums in the upright position mounted in a wooden frame with tubes and wires coming out. Evidently an unexploded car bomb.
Yes, but that would be putting entirely too many Americans in harm's way, when it could be accomplished in a lower-risk fashion.
Thanks Glock rocks.

Thanks! (I can't believe I forgot her name when it was just announced before she started! She's really good, too. Oh, well, it's early -- one more cup of tea can't hurt!)
OMG!
Absolutely.

Thanks for that translation ganeshpuri89.
Multinationals aren't tied to US laws.
