9/11 Miniseries is Bunk
Los Angeles Times ^ | 9/08/06 | Barbara Bodine

ON THE MORNING of Sept. 11, 2001, Americans — and the world — froze, saddened and angry. Five years later, we stop to remember those we lost and those who have sacrificed in our defense since, and to reflect on what we must learn. History will define us not by the events of that day but by who we choose to become as a result.

Regrettably, ABC has chosen not to document but to dramatize this most critical of times. Its miniseries, "The Path to 9/11," opts for fiction when fact is needed and chooses mythmaking when the candor of history is called for. The 9/11 commission report tells the story with clear-eyed honesty, precision and studious impartiality. The ABC drama does not. The 9/11 commission spent hours interviewing virtually everyone connected not just with the events of that day but those involved in counter-terrorism over 25 years — Republican as well as Democrat. ABC did not.

My neighbor up the street is the Ambassador to El Salvador. His claim to fame. Dad Bush's NY State campaign head in 1992. Thats probably why he got El Salvador rather than Ireland or Italy.

Thanks for the posting. Personally, I was impressed with the mini...I didn't expect strict down the line stuff, because the disclaimer said it wasn't. We need something like this every 3 months to keep our tempers hot.

I wish they would have included this incident from the 9/11 Commission Report as a scene in the movie.

There was substantial disagreement between Minneapolis agents and FBI headquarters as to what Moussaoui was planning to do. In one conversation between a Minneapolis supervisor and a headquarters agent, the latter com= plained that Minneapolis’s FISA request was couched in a manner intended to get people “spun up.”The supervisor replied that was precisely his intent. He said he was “trying to keep someone from taking a plane and crashing into the World Trade Center.” The headquarters agent replied that this was not going to happen and that they did not know if Moussaoui was a terrorist.101

Anybody can hide behind a lawyer especially someone who is trying to stay on the good side of ol' GHW Bush and preserve his future place on the Carlyle board of directors.

But you won't see Clinton stand up like a man and denounce this (expletive deleted). I've defended this wimp for 10 years, but if he won't stand up for himself, (expletive deleted) him. If everybody wants to believe 9/11 was his fault, and he won't lift a finger to contradict them, then maybe there is some truth to it.

The only bad part is he is dragging good people like Albright and Berger down with him. -DU poster tularetom

Roots of failed policy preceded President Clinton. He did not correct it, and himself personified risk-aversion. I hadn't considered the stark construction "9/11 was Clinton's fault" and I don't think that is what viewers starkly conclude.

There's truth in the film and the message to DU people should be to grow up and get your party on board with the natural truth of what we must do.

From Wikipedia: Bodine then became Diplomat in Residence at UCSB, until the March 2003 Invasion of Iraq, when she was appointed coordinator for central Iraq in charge of Baghdad. In the summer of 2003, she returned to the State Department in Washington.

Apparently, they kicked her butt out of there in just 3 months..

And a bitch to boot.

You sound like you know her, Howlin. Actually, I do, and I concur with your assessment. Typical self-aggrandizing bureaucrat. And a homewrecker to boot, haha. And I won't elaborate on that one.

If she was half what the show depicted in the first five minutes of covering her, she sould have been tossed out the window of her office and forced to walk back to the U.S.

Go Frodo Clarke

Yeah, and I think he was on Flight 93 too - but he made it. I think they missed that part or it was too secret.

Well, ha ha ha, the Bodine got slapped and now she's cryin'.

She should be frog-marched for obstructing investigation of the bombing of the USS Cole.

Roots of failed policy preceded President Clinton.

Actually, CLinton amazes me.

He spent YEARS looking for a foreign policy scenario that would make his legacy a slam-dunk. It drops into his lap and he has no clue what to do with it.

Getting Osama would have been a fine feather in his cap, 911 or no.

And his incompetence fumbled it.

Just to make it clear - it is buried in your response---those are NOT my thoughts, but those of a DU'er.

I know you indicated that. Just making it clear.
