ON THE MORNING of Sept. 11, 2001, Americans and the world froze, saddened and angry. Five years later, we stop to remember those we lost and those who have sacrificed in our defense since, and to reflect on what we must learn. History will define us not by the events of that day but by who we choose to become as a result.
Regrettably, ABC has chosen not to document but to dramatize this most critical of times. Its miniseries, "The Path to 9/11," opts for fiction when fact is needed and chooses mythmaking when the candor of history is called for. The 9/11 commission report tells the story with clear-eyed honesty, precision and studious impartiality. The ABC drama does not. The 9/11 commission spent hours interviewing virtually everyone connected not just with the events of that day but those involved in counter-terrorism over 25 years Republican as well as Democrat. ABC did not.

If the Clintonistas had fought terrorists as mightily as they fought to censor this movie/documentary, there would be no terrorists left.

I still don't understand how the 9-11 Comission report is the Holy Grail?

Bodine then became Diplomat in Residence at UCSB, until the March 2003 Invasion of Iraq, when she was appointed coordinator for central Iraq in charge of Baghdad. In the summer of 2003, she returned to the State Department in Washington. Looks like she hung around for awhile even after her run in with O'Neill.

I think they are using it as the gold standard because they know few people have read it, few people will ever read it, and it has good name recognition.

Seeing that the main focus of the program was pre Bush, it treated Bush relatively fairly. Most of the failures were during Clintons Democratic reign. It was a "proportional" depiction of the time line. I like the way it showed the W crowd absolutely unaware, but it did show them to be too incompetent. I was expecting Richard Clarke to dive into a phone booth and change into a super hero outfit.

Looks like the show pretty much followed the series of events leading to 9/11.A PBS documentary - any treatment by deeply liberal filmmakers would have managed to emphasize only elements that do not tend to show the needed lesson. That an existential threat compels a nation (or individual) to act decisively, even ruthlessly.

Ping to post #36. More State Department obstruction of efforts that could've prevented 9/11.

She cared more for the country she was assigned to than her ownNo. She was a typical Clinton appointee. She knew nothing and cared much more about throwing her position around than serving her coutnry. She was the "ugly" American.

Don't know, were weren't there....does give another side which could make sense. Brings to focus "reasonable doubt".
What we would like to be true, we often take as fact; when in fact it is not.
