Can the West defeat the Islamist threat? Here are ten reasons why not

LET US SUPPOSE, for the sake of argument, that the war declared by al-Qaeda and other Islamists is under way. Let us further suppose that thousands of “terrorist” attacks carried out in Islam’s name during the past decades form part of this war; and that conflicts that have spread to 50 countries and more, taking the lives of millions — including in inter-Muslim blood-shedding — are the outcome of what Osama bin Laden has called “conducting jihad for the sake of Allah”.

If such war is under way, there are ten good reasons why, as things stand, Islam will not be defeated in it.

1) The first is the extent of political division in the non-Muslim world about what is afoot. Some reject outright that there is a war at all; others agree with the assertion by the US President that “the war we fight is the decisive ideological struggle of the 21st century”. Divided counsels have also dictated everything from “dialogue” to the use of nuclear weapons, and from reliance on “public diplomacy” to “taking out Islamic sites”, Mecca included. Adding to this incoherence has been the gulf between those bristling to take the fight to the “terrorist” and those who would impede such a fight, whether from domestic civil libertarian concerns or from rivalrous geopolitical calculation.

The islamic threat is the cancer of western civilzation. It is pernicious, not amenable to destruction by any of the high tech weapons we have. Its parasitic, virulent cells hide behind the tissues of society, sometimes feeding on it, other times blowing it up.

And just like it is taking a long time to eliminate cancer, so will it take a long time to eliminate the islamic threat... unless our body politics remains so unaware of its existence that it ends up killing us first.

I agree Robert Spencer is a great man.

I think you're misinterpreting the article - you see It as defeatist and I see it is a call to action.

I am far morn concerned about Muslims taking over not as the result of war, but as a result of using democracy as a tool against us. If you look at the rate at which the Muslims are becoming a larger percentage of the problem in most European countries, if you look at how their young people become more radical generation after generation, while the governments of the west become more "compassionate" and politically correct, there is cause for concern.

I ran across this site www.islamicfinder.org that someone posted on freerepublic.

I put in my zip and there are like THREE Muzzie orgs within 30 miles!

That was news to me!

Anyway I was reading one of their websites and sent them an email (from my anonymous account of course!) responding to some of their posted material:

"Americans seem shocked that anyone would not love America”

I would disagree. I would say that "Americans are shocked that anyone who dislikes America would choose to live here."

I would remind the devote practitioners of Islam that there are many places where people with similar feelings are. And I'd suggest that they move there!

I recently did exactly that coming from the Bay Area to Colorado Springs because I found that people here think much more like I do.

As a free county no one is forcing devote Muslims to remain in America.

I am much happier now that I am around people who think like I do!

You should try it and suggest it to all you know who feel that way!

I really believe the only force powerful enough to defeat the corrosive power of Islam is Christianity.

Absolutely! Islam is the perversion of Judaism and Christianity.

However, I suggest its onslaught will strengthen Christianity and Judaism the way wrestling strengthens a wrestler or sparring improves a boxer. One other by product of the onslaught of islam...it unifies Christianity and Judaism into a single, solid force.

In the end, the best man will win. Will it be Mohammed...or Jesus? (purely rhetorical question so don't flame.)

This author, like so many alarmists, underestimates the resolve of the West, if not in its political institutions, at least in the will of the people themselves. Islam survives because we tolerate it. Pushed too far, our tolerance will dissolve. And then it is Islam that is doomed. Its backward, primitive, hate-filled legions are no match for a Western technological army committed to total victory.

All we're lacking now is the commitment, not the tools. One more 9/11 and the incentive will be there too. And then we can take out the trash for good.

I doubt that.

And we only used nukes ONCE, with very specific goals. It worked that one time, and has been HEAVILY debated since.

Not that I oppose use of nukes. But I expect the elites of power do.

The State Dept. probably has volumes on why not. And the military probably says: "WTF...let's do it."

Disgusting, is more like it. It's really hard to tell reality from the Onion these days. We allow more Muslims in. We IMPORT and subsidize Muslims from Russia and other countries with taxpayer money. At no point were any of us asked if we wanted to do this.

Our government takes from us and gives to our enemies. We the People are ignored, but taxed at the barrel of a gun to pay for those who want to kill us.

Fire EVERYONE at State. That SHOULD HAVE been Rice's first action, but instead we get more of the same.
