At the Kettle Diner in Jacksonville, N.C., it's faith, family and the Corps. Jacksonville is home to Camp Lejuene, the largest Marine Corps base on the East Coast...Even some lifelong conservatives aren't hearing the president's message anymore.
"I've turned him off," said retired Marine Col. Jim Van Riper. "I've tuned him out."
Van Riper is a Christian, card-carrying member of the National Rifle Association who voted for President Bush twice. But as more Marines have died, his confidence in the Bush administration has died as well.

What info did you submit to get his party affiliation? Just put in his last name and j for his first name, then use the pull down menu to select "starts with". You will get several records, one of which is his. Click on his name. "Party affiliation" is down about halfway. I looked up other people I know in NC (same way -- last name, first initial) and they are listed as "Republican"!

Sorry the grammar police must step in: The MSM thinks you're stupid.
You should bust me for being lazy too because I saw the error and was too lazy to correct it in another post.

I couldn't get that site to work for me. James for firstname and Van Riper for the lastname? "van riper" for last name and just "j" for first name, but change the pull down menu to "Begins with" instead of "Exactly like."

Evidently, Van Riper got busted after his '02 remarks...
Army Times, 8/16/02, "retired General Paul Van Riper".
Jacksonville News, 11/21/04, "retired Colonel Paul Van Riper".
CNN, 12/1/05, "retired Colonel Paul Van Riper".
CBS, 9/7/06, "retired Colonel Paul Van Riper".
Van Riper clearly has wormed his way into the MSM's Rolidexes and, given a little media attention, is always available for a pithy anti-Bush quote.
You really need to send your finding to Rush, Hannity and News Busters. Byron York at Weekly Standard might appreciate them, as well.

Two different people Are you certain? I assumed that the press just got it wrong. They're known to do such a thing.
And, if they are two different people, do you know whether they might be related?

It would fit the "losing support" theme in the news report.
Different issue, but still the same topic.
Of course CBS faked theirs by cheery picking a know entity.

Great find.
Hmm, now if this gets out... I wonder if Katie Couric could be considered at all responsible for reporting a bogus story like old Dan was? (yeah, fat chance) But she certainly fits right in with CBS's agenda.

Thanks for exposing yet another DBM disgusting lie. Folks, we have our own war here at home against the DBM and democRAT terrorists. I consider them to be more dangerous than the Islamic Fascists. At least I can't be as easily fooled that the Islamic Fascist wants to behead me as I can by traitors posing as loyal freedom loving Americans whose goal is to enslave me and destroy our country.

For the record, the CNN DC Assignment Desk though this was a laugh riot. So did the Jacksonville Daily News newsroom.
CBS's National Desk in NYC wanted to blow it off to a "Comment Line" which was declined.
Who will have this in the news first, Howie Kurtz or Matt Drudge? Dinosaur or The New Media?
