He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said. It is understood he was killed by a sting-ray barb that went through his chest.
He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary and that's when it occured.

He was a good guy and entertaining. His wife and kids must be devastated.
Who would have thought that a STINGRAY did him in?!! I've petted those buggers on numerous occasions and even fed them!
God rest his soul! Such a wonderful man with such a zeal for life. He will be missed.

He really loved life 100%. May God bless him and keep him, and give his family and friends strength.
There's some pretty nasty stuff in the deep. I heard there's less than five people on Earth who survived being stung by a conch.
I don't claim to be an expert on animal behavior, but it seems more than a few times I saw him basically get in the face of some critter who just plain didn't like cameras. Or humans.

More often than not, he was playing with animals that don't recognize humans as being on top of the food chain.
Apparently his wife doesn't know yet. She's climbing a mountain somewhere.
