If you were threatened by imminent death, would you surrender all your beliefs, your human dignity and and your honor in the hope your captors will allow you to live? That my friend is NOT life - that is slavery, where another human being owns you. It is a kind of living death. Patrick Henry had a point where he spoke for the early American revolutionaries: "Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death." Some things are worth dying for. But we live in a time, thanks to liberalism, where literally nothing is worth dying for and our enemies reveal the contempt they have for our lack of self-respect. Chestlessness indeed.

I don't fault Centanni and Wiig doing what they thought they had to do to save their lives, but I do fault them for not repudiating what they said in no uncertain terms at the first opportunity.

Centanni, at lest, needed to get back to the U.S. to do an at-length interview laying out in unambiguous terms the savagery of the Islamic fascists.

That he hasn't done so leads me to suspect he has sympathy for their cause.

I think the terrorist groups are desperate to get any good news anywhere as they get their butts kicked by militarys everywhere.
So they kidnapped a couple of reporters. They didn't exactly come to battle any military head on with weapons or hand to hand combat.

IMO, the terrorist are just a bunch of girlie men who take great measures to not take on men head on.

I agree. Of course, these conversions were phony. I certainly would agree to go along with the charade rather than have my head cut off. How absurd that so many here believe these conversion were real. Some people are so embittered about their own life that they lash out and criticize everyone and everything.

And, to the Islamist mind, a society with nothing to die for is already dead."

And who gives a big rat's a$$ what they think? We know the insanity that's in their heads and we know that they want to kill us all. That's all I need to know.

Bravo. Very well- spoken, goldstategop. If I'm ever in a position where lunatics like that demand I convert or die, I hope I'll show the courage and conviction that Quattrocchi showed.

They were put in funny costumes and had to say nonsensical things.

If I had to choose at gun point between being beheaded and a frat hazing, I'd choose the hazing.

The critics are forgetting Patton's maxim - the goal is not to die for your country, but to get the other bastard to die for his.

C.S. Lewis suggests in “The Abolition of Man” that it is the chest or heart that makes us men:

“As the king governs by his executive, so Reason in man must rule the mere appetites by means of the “spirited element.” The head rules the belly through the chest-the seat, as Alanus tells us, of Magnanimity, of emotions organize by trained habit into stable sentiment. The Chest-Magnanimity-Sentiment-these are the indispensable liaison officers between cerebral man and visceral man. It may even be said that it is by this middle element that man is man; for by his intellect he is mere spirit and by his appetite mere animal.”

A contemporary elementary text-book that Lewis referred to as the “The Green Book”, and “its kind” were the tools by which men would be produced without chests:

“In a sort of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.”

But despite “The Green Book” and “its kind”, as then, there is a generation today that is rising up and is ready to confront the enemy at the gate. But will our politicians let them?

if nobody was willing to die for religious beliefs

It all depends on how you view eternity. Obviously for you, this life is all there is. I would rather hope for something better.

I just hope this never scares a single journalist away from coming to Gaza to cover this story because the Palestinian people are a very beautiful, kind-hearted and caring people that the world need[s] to know more about.

I have to wonder if they would give such a broad generous statement if Centanni's brother's family members had been killed in a suicide attack or Wiig's wife held hostage and mistreated. They have no case to base this statement on. Their family members are safe and sound....despite the Wiig wife's self-proclaimed heroism.

Unfortunately for those of us who are Christians, it really isn't a matter of who in the world is watching or what they see or think. Jesus didn't add any conditions, a denial before men is a denial before men. I can only pray that I would have the courage to deserve His grace.

Mt:10:33:
33 But he that shall deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven. (DRV)

Chestless cowards? I disagree. Just imagine how much more peaceful the world would be if nobody was willing to die for religious beliefs.

It would not be one iota more peaceful. Those with evil in their hearts would hate you just as much for some other reason if religion was taken out of the equation. To think otherwise is soporific folly.

to paraphrase Patton, having a willingness to make the other side die in very large quantities until they cannot and will not fight any longer.

Been missing since Korea. A wounded enemy is still an enemy.

I cannot imagine how Peter felt after denying Jesus three times, but he was forgiven and allowed to bring the Gospel and his own testimony of forgiveness because of his momentary lack of faith. Would the world have been better off if he had not denied the Christ? It would seem God could still use Him for His glory.

Not knowing these two men's relationship with God, it's difficult to say what their very public and obviously forced conversion means in the grand scheme of things. Perhaps it's best left to the judgment of the One Who knows their hearts and how the rest of their time on Earth can be used for Him.

I don't think that would help much; it would leave all those people willing to kill for their religious beliefs, and their non-religious beliefs for that matter. And no one willing to pull out all the stops to thwart them. Oh bother.
