Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - September 2006

Posted on 09/01/2006 8:57:29 PM PDT by nwctwx

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Five Years Later, We're Still Not Safe
-Full Story-

In the five years since terrorists flew hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Americans have accepted inconvenience, sacrificed personal liberties and paid billions of dollars for a security clampdown that touches virtually every aspect of their lives.

And we're still not safe.

A close examination of the federal government's homeland security effort shows that there have been major accomplishments since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. But it also reveals how vulnerable the nation remains to catastrophe.

"Unanswered questions of September 11"
By Rowan Scarborough and Jerry Seper
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
September 10, 2006

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Lee Hamilton, vice chairman of the national September 11 commission, says motivation was the "big question" the panel could not answer.

"We were never able to answer why the 19 were willing to kill themselves. What was the motivation? I am talking in a very personal way," Mr. Hamilton, a Democrat who represented Indiana's 9th District in the House for 34 years, said in an interview wih The Washington Times."

Is that quote for real? Motivation? The Commission could not pin down motivation for Islamic fascist martyrdom? Guess they would similarly fail at fingering the motivation for the Japanese kamikazees, too.

Unbelievable.

I think we can give the Commission more than a few answers. He has certainly not listened to Steven Emerson and the like.

It sounds like Hamilton has a problem admitting the truth because it isn't pretty and it goes against the grain of political correctness. I am sure some other Commission members know the real deal though, thank goodness.

But let's help the helpless Mr. Hamilton and certain other of his colleagues by cutting to the chase with the most succinct and obvious answer:

The jihadis are indoctrinated in hate for Jews and Westerners at the same time they are indoctrinated in the false notion that there are 72 eager virgins awaiting them in paradise after they martyr themselves and kill as many Jews and Westerners as possible in the process.

And let's remember the jihadis are not fond of the "crusaders" and the "Christian zionists."

BAGHDAD, Iraq An Iraqi court has convicted 38 people of charges related to suspected insurgent activity, sentencing them to prison terms ranging from six months to life, the U.S.-led coalition said in a statement.

The 38 were tried at the Central Criminal Court of Iraq on Aug. 25, the coalition said in a statement released late Saturday night.

Six people were sentenced to life imprisonment — three for kidnapping, two for "joining armed groups to unsettle the stability and security of Iraq" and one for murder after he shot and killed a coalition armed forces member, the statement said.

One other man — a Saudi national — was convicted of entering Iraq illegally and received a 15-year sentence.

Most of the others were convicted of possession of unlicensed weapons or attempting to cause an explosion and received sentences of between seven and 30 years.

"Muslims Indicted for Exporting Military Equipment and Secrets"
September 09, 2006
Vox Populi, Jim Kouri
by Jim Kouri, CPP

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Three Islamic men were indicted on Friday by a federal grand jury in Fresno, California, for illegally exporting sensitive military equipment — including body armor and chemical protective suits — to Yemen, as well as dealing in US government secrets.

Amen Ahmed Ali, 56, of Bakersfield, also known as Ali Amin Alrowhani, Amin Al Rohany or Ameen Alrohany, and his two associates, Mohamed Al-Rahimi, 62, of Bakersfield, and Ibrahim A. Omer, 40, of Fort Worth, Texas, are charged with exporting stolen sensitive military equipment to Yemen. In addition, Ali is charged with acquiring and transmitting secret defense information obtained from a government undercover agent.

The charges are the result of a long-term and ongoing investigation by the Joint Terrorism Task Force, including the Justice Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Homeland Security Department’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Bakersfield, CA Police Department, and the Kern County, CA Sheriff’s Office.

According to the indictment, on numerous occasions, between June 25, 2005 and August 31, 2006, Ali received secret defense documents from a government undercover agent. He then allegedly transmitted them, both by fax and courier, to the Republic of Yemen.

In addition, Ali is charged with conspiring with Omer to ship military items to Yemen. The indictment alleges that between January 13, 2003 and February 14, 2004, Ali and Omer violated the Arms Export Control Act and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations by shipping military equipment, including body armor and chemical protective suits. These items cannot be legally exported from the United States without authorization from the State Department.

Ali is also charged with conspiring with Al-Rahimi to receive stolen government property which was also sent to Yemen. The indictment alleges that Ali purchased military equipment he believed had been stolen from the United States Army and directed it to be shipped to Yemen. It is alleged that Al-Rahimi traveled to Yemen to broker the sale of the items"

"Search for Trac phone buyers is on in Richmond"

By Kelly Foreman
Register News Writer

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Richmond police are looking into the purchase of multiple, untraceable cell phones at a local business, but say a criminal case has not been opened.

Family Dollar Store Manager Jenny Baxter said three men came into the store on the Eastern Bypass between 4 and 5 p.m. Tuesday.

“They came in and bought four cell phones,” Baxter said. “I had seen it on the news the night before and thought it might be the same people.”

LEX 18 News reported Lexington police were searching for a man of Middle Eastern descent after he tried to purchase several Nokia 1100 series Trac phones. The phones are reportedly untraceable and are known to detonate bombs, according to the news station. A representative at the Lexington Division of Police said information regarding the case had been turned over to Intelligence Officer Detective Richard Yancy. Yancy was unavailable Wednesday for further information about the case in Lexington.

Baxter said two of the men were white and the third appeared to be Middle Eastern. She confirmed the men bought the same Nokia phones allegedly purchased by the “person of interest” in Lexington."

New Drugs Tested In Russia On Those With Kim Jong-il's Health Profile

A lawmaker at Intelligence Committee, "told by the intelligence chief"

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Kim Nam-kwon = It is claimed that new drugs are being tested in Russia on those who are of the same age, physique, and physiology as Kim Jong-il, whose health is allegedly in trouble recently.

A lawmaker at Intelligence Committee of National Assembly (S. Korea) claimed during a telephone conversation with Yonhap News on Sept. 10, "National Intelligence Service Chief Kim Seung-kyu said so recently at the full meeting of Intelligence Committee."

The lawmaker explained, "NIS Chief Kim told us that two men with the same age, physique, and physiology as Kim Jong-il are staying at a Russian hospital, and they are administered with new drugs which are supposed to be effective against diabetes and heart ailment."
.
He added, "Russia's medicine is more advanced. This must be an attempt by N. Korea to treat Kim Jong-il's health problem."
Kim Jong-il is suffering from heart disease and diabetes, and according to NIS, he had secretly sought treatment at a clinic inside Space Center in Beijing, during his visit to China last January.

Forgot about the beginning of Ramadan. Thanks. You are right about the timeline and have been all along. We have two eclipses again this year during Ramadan.

Reminds me that infamous pic with the sun, the moon, the suitcase nuke, and the Mahdi.

There are several people here now who probably weren't following the Threat Matrix back in the days that image was posted. For their, and everyone's benefit.......

Ferries targets for terrorism? Washington State Ferries

Lawmakers told of numerous ‘suspicious incidents’

LES BLUMENTHAL; The News Tribune
Published: September 10th, 2006 01:00 AM

WASHINGTON – It could be a bomb stuffed in a car or a truck or strapped around the waist of a suicide bomber.
It could be an explosives-filled boat, like the one that attacked the guided-missile destroyer USS Cole in Yemen six years ago. It could be a small plane packed with explosives diving out of the sky.

Or terrorists might hijack one of Washington state’s jumbo ferries with 2,500 people on board and aim it at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, which overhauls nuclear aircraft carriers and Trident nuclear submarines.

Although security has improved dramatically since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the ferries plying the waters of Puget Sound remain vulnerable, and intelligence suggests that terrorists are conducting surveillance and the ferries could be a target, officials say.

FBI and homeland security officials said no terrorist plots have been uncovered, but in the three years after 9/11 the FBI reviewed 157 “suspicious incidents” involving the Washington state ferry system, the nation’s largest.

Of those, seven were classified as having an “extremely” high likelihood of being pre-operational planning, 11 were classified as a “high” likelihood and 49 as “medium,” according to briefing documents homeland security officials provided in late August to members of the House Homeland Security Committee.

“Intelligence suggests that WSF (Washington State Ferries) is being monitored and may be a potential terrorist target,” according to the documents, which were marked as sensitive but not classified. “Attacks on mass transit systems are increasingly terrorists’ choice.”....

"Yemen tribesmen kidnap up to 5 tourists: officials"

http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=2416083

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Sep 10, 2006 — SANAA (Reuters) - Armed Yemeni tribesmen kidnapped up to five foreign tourists in the east of the country on Sunday, a Yemeni government official said.

The Yemeni official said five French holidaymakers had been snatched, however a French Foreign Ministry source said four people had been kidnapped and only two of them were likely to be French nationals.

The Yemeni, who declined to be named, said the kidnapping occurred in Shabwa province by members of the Abdullah tribe. Security sources said members of the same tribe, demanding the release of some jailed relatives, had taken hostage, and released, five German tourists last year."
