Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - September 2006

Posted on 09/01/2006 8:57:29 PM PDT by nwctwx

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Five Years Later, We're Still Not Safe
-Full Story-

In the five years since terrorists flew hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Americans have accepted inconvenience, sacrificed personal liberties and paid billions of dollars for a security clampdown that touches virtually every aspect of their lives.

And we're still not safe.

A close examination of the federal government's homeland security effort shows that there have been major accomplishments since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. But it also reveals how vulnerable the nation remains to catastrophe.

We've got a new menace. Her name will be Florence but I don't think she's a healer like the famous nurse. Ernesto showed the power of prayer here in South Florida. We didn't even lose power. Thank the good Lord.

FLORENCE TRACK

My wife is entering the retirement program for teachers in November. From the moment she signs, we have five years and counting down before we sell the house and move out of the hurricane bullseye. She'll retire with full a full load and I'll take early retirement. We can hardly wait.

Thanks, Cindy. I enjoyed my day.

Beautiful weather here, too, with everything green and growing following much rain days previously.

JIHAD WATCH.org (AP): Amman, Jordan - "GUNMAN IN JORDAN SHOUTS 'ALLAHU AKBAR,' KILLS 1 IN ATTACK ON TOURISTS" (ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The official said Jaourah, 38, is from Rusaifa, a village outside Zarqa, the hometown of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq who was killed June 7 when a U.S. warplane bombed his hideout in Iraq. Zaqra [sic] is an industrial town northeast of Amman that is a hub for extremist Muslims. Preliminary investigations found no link between known terror groups and Jaourah, a Jordanian of Palestinian origin who worked as a metal welder, the official said. Jaourah is believed to be an observant Muslim who once wore a beard -- traditional among some conservative Muslims -- but he was clean-shaven when he carried out the assault, the official added.") Laura Mansfield probably has a complete transcript.
I didn't look for a full transcript yet. If I find one,
I'll update the links.

Here's my latest links and the Google video in my links set states it is a
"full video."

The link you provided shows plenty of rain heading your way. I'm certain you and your wife very well know the drill by now. The names on the list of storm names didn't impress me, but if they become lethal, we'll all know them by heart quickly.

It's good you have your retirement plans ready to go. We sold our big house, said goodbye to the working world and moved into a smaller home in another state and haven't looked back or been sorry - not even for a minute. We have no clue why some people elect to go back to work - unless they haven't gotten all their ducks in a row before they pulled the plug. You'll never find bored people in my home - there's ALWAYS something to do and/or somewhere to go. May your retirement plans go exactly as you plan with no complications.

My first impression of the new tape is the "numbers game".

Tape released on 9/2 = 11
9/2/2006 add all the numbers together for = 19

I didn't notice that.
Thanks Velveeta.

OPINION: The video was created to:

1. pump up the jihadi base.

2. as a go signal.

3. as a warning to a pending attack.

4. remind everyone that an invitation
(by a terrorist and a translator for Al Qaeda)
to Islam is special.

5. remind us all that everyday is a jihad day
for jihadis.

Nokhchiin: the new cheerful name for Chechnya?

Snip: If he gets his way, Chechnya will be deleted from maps and replaced with the more wholesome sounding "the Nokhchiin Republic". Chechens already call themselves "Nokhchii" in the Chechen language.

Ramadam begins September 24th

Snip: "Countries that will not be able to sight the crescent on September 23 will start fasting on Monday, September 25," Odeh said.

US travelers face new travel rules

Snip: The travel industry and several border-state governors and senators have been pushing for a delay in the new rules, fearing confusion and long delays for travelers that could hurt the cruise industry in particular. Only 25% of Americans have passports, and many could be left high and dry if they don't get one before they head off to an island cruise.

Saudi Arabia to deport 25,000 Yemeni workers

Snip: According to the source the Saudi security authorities intend to deport 25 thousand Yemeni workers most of whom are living on its territories in an illegal way. The list of the deportees is expected to contain thousands of those who have not completed their acquiring the legitimate residence since their entering the Saudi especially after the facilities offered to them according the Jedda treaty. Officials at Yemen’s major airports and border crossings affirmed that increasing number of the Yemeni workers deported by force from the kingdom territories. While the number of deported Yemeni workers is on the rise, observers expect the Saudi authorities begin after the present season of pilgrimage and intensive campaign to purge their territories from illegal residents.

"Danish Police Arrest 9 Terror Suspects"
By JAN M. OLSEN Associated Press Writer

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Police in Denmark on Tuesday arrested nine people suspected of plotting a terror attack with materials they acquired to build explosives, intelligence officials said.

The arrests occurred overnight in Vollsmose, a mostly immigrant suburb west of Odense, Denmark's third-largest city.

Lars Findsen, head of the Danish Security Intelligence Service, said the suspects had acquired materials to build explosives "in connection with the preparation of a terror act," without elaborating. He did not reveal the planned target of the attack and said it was hard to evaluate how far the plot had come along.

Findsen said the suspects _ comprised of ethnic Danes and immigrants aged between 18 and 33 _ would face a custody hearing later Tuesday.

"With the general terror situation, the Danish Security Intelligence Service didn't want to run any unnecessary risk," he said.

Justice Minister Lene Espersen said the group had been under surveillance for some time. "It is that surveillance that is the basis for the arrests," she said in a statement.

Denmark raised its terror preparedness after the attacks on London's transit system in July 2005 and the protests across the Middle East and Asia earlier this year over controversial cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad that were first published in a Danish newspaper.

Tuesday's arrests would not prompt the Scandinavian country to raise its terror alert again, Findsen said."

The sweep came nearly two weeks after four young Muslims were charged in Copenhagen in connection with a Bosnian terror probe. Investigators said the network planned to blow up a target in a European country to force the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan and Iraq."
