Omar behind Waziristan deal: report
Dawn (PK) ^ | LONDON, Sept 24
Posted on 09/25/2006 3:24:01 PM PDT by Perdogg
The fugitive Taliban commander Mullah Omar has emerged as the key player behind the controversial Waziristan peace deal.
The online edition of the Telegraph reported on Sunday that the Talibans one-eyed spiritual leader, who had a $10 million price on his head for refusing to hand over Osama bin Laden after the September 11 attacks, signed a letter explicitly endorsing the recently announced truce.
The deal between the government and North Waziristan elders in the tribal region bordering Afghanistan is reported to be designed to end five years of bloodshed in the area.
While officially a US ally in the war on terror, Pakistan has been repeatedly accused by Afghanistan of not doing enough to clear Taliban militants out of its border regions, allegations it denies.

Though I have read Paul Williams' books, I have slowly lost confidence in him as an accurate source. Perhaps it is the fact that he has tied himself to NEIN recently.

Me 2 ... you've got a pretty high opinion of Mir? So then the MO is that they allow one of their operatives to speak with him so he can report their plans to the world as their courtesy warning to comply with their quirky islamofascist ethics?

I hope you're right that nothing will happen during Ramadan, but too many moons, eclipses, numbers and historical issues seem to be lining up.
Sadly though, I think some sites are adding to the hype in order to get readers and revenue.

Hazmat hoaxes shut down two buildings (Colorado)
Suspicious material found in letters sent to two separate government buildings earlier today were determined to be non-threatening, Phil Champagne, a spokesman with the Denver Fire Department, said.
One of the letters sent to government offices at 1313 Sherman St. contained sugar, Champagne said. The letter was found on the 7th floor of the building, and a hazardous material team was called to the scene. The entire building was evacuated, he said. Four people were exposed to the material in the letter.
The second letter, sent to the World Trade Center building at 1625 Broadway, contained sugar substitute, (snip)

New Requirements for Travelers
The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future.
In the proposed implementation plan, which is subject to a period of initial public comment, the Initiative will be rolled out in phases, providing as much advance notice as possible to the affected public to enable them to meet the terms of the new guidelines. The proposed timeline will be as follows:
January 8, 2007 - Requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
January 1, 2008 - Requirement extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.
This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States from countries within the Western Hemisphere who do not currently possess valid passports. This new requirement will also affect certain foreign nationals who currently are not required to present a passport to travel to the United States. Most Canadian citizens, citizens of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, and to a lesser degree, Mexican citizens will be affected by the implementation of this requirement.

Police Sweep Paris Suburb After Attack
Tuesday September 26, 2006 4:01 AM
PARIS (AP) - More than 200 police raided a neighborhood Monday in suburban Paris where a band of youths attacked riot police last week and seriously wounded one officer, reviving memories of the violence that raged in poor French suburbs last year.
Twelve people were detained in the early morning sweep in Corbeil-Essonnes south of the capital, the local prosecutor said.
A band of up to 30 youths armed with makeshift weapons attacked two riot police patrolling a housing project in Corbeil-Essonnes last Tuesday. One suffered a double skull fracture.
At the time, police were called in to disperse the youths but no arrests were made. Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy vowed to track the perpetrators down ``one by one.''
French authorities have kept a watchful eye on the low-income housing projects in suburbs nationwide where riots by youth, many unemployed and from immigrant backgrounds, erupted nearly a year ago and continued for three weeks.
