I love cornbread but my mouth doesn't produce enough saliva and when I eat something like cornbread, I have to butter it up really well and take tiny bites followed immediately by water because the bread crumbles so much. I grew up eating it so it doesn't seem odd to me, but I can see how the texture might give one pause. I have a friend who adds in whole kernels of cooked corn, and ... applesauce! I love her version because it makes it so moist.
Oh dear Gretchen... prayers for your friend.
Thanks!
Great pics tonight...and it was a great speech today. I hope everyone got a chance to see/hear it.
I wonder if he was looking up at the family whose military son was buried yesterday, the one he acknowledged in his speech today.
Gretchen, I am so glad to hear someone else has the same saliva problem I do. Although it would seem yours is more acute than mine. My dentist told me I don't salivate very much (often they don't even use the retractor for me) and it's why I don't like to chew gum-- makes my mouth TOO dry.
My mom used to use a can of creamed corn to her corn bread....it was so good and moist.
How awful has she lost everything?
My sister does that! Corn bread/muffins is all she cooks.
Thank you Fudd. She is a Christian and has lots of friends in her city, so people are there for her -- she lives quite a ways from me so I'm glad for the help she has at hand. But fire is such a frightful thing. My office burned in a huge fire years ago and although the firemen put the thing out on all three sides of my desk -- mine was the last desk NOT to burn and I suffered very little loss -- it is a shocking thing to go through. It really rattles one's life.
I make Mexican cornbread. With cream corn, cheese and jalapeno peppers in the batter. It is really moist and delicious. :)
Be warned ILG - Toasters are addictive. You can't have just one.
Her Email didn't address that but reading between the lines, it didn't sound like it. Just that the building (structure) is a total loss, probably due to structural, smoke, and water damage. It was just a quick heads up, that really WAS my apartment building that burned, I'm okay, more info later sort of communication.
I did not use the mix I made it from scratch, it was moist enough but I was not sure about the taste.
I used Amish recipe I found on the net which did not have sugar in and in a way it reminded me of yorkshire pudding but a cake texture. That is what I could not get used to a non sweet cake and cake served with savoury dish but on the whole I liked it.
Glad you still enjoying what I sent.
I add creamed corn to mine as well. Sometimes I add grated cheese, onions and jalpenos to the batter too. It is really good with stew or chili.
I rarely make corn bread, no one here really cares for it...they much prefer dinner rolls or garlic bread.

BUSH SINGLES OUT CPL. GALVEZ, KILLED IN IRAQ
August 31st, 2006 @ 3:43pm
Richard Piatt Reporting
The President singled out a family whose son paid the ultimate price in the war. Marine Corporal Adam Galvez of Salt Lake City was killed by a roadside 11 days ago. Today, Bush thanked the Galvez family directly.
He used the family's own strong feelings on the war to inspire thousands of veterans.
President Bush: "Adam's belief in this country did not waver, even to the point of ultimate sacrifice."
Tony and Amy Galvez listen to a Presidential tribute to their son, barely 24 hours after his funeral. President George W. Bush said Marine Corporal Adam Galvez is an example of the price America is paying for freedom. It's a fight the President says must continue.
President Bush: "Our nation will always remember the selflessness and sacrifice of Americans like Adam Galvez. We will honor their lives by completing the good and noble work they have started."
Adam Galvez is among the 2600-plus service men and women who have died in the war. It's painful for his parents to be part of that statistic. This honor from the President is one of the unexpected by products of his service.
Tony Galvez, Father: "I was extremely honored the president took a few moments to mention my son."
Amy Galvez, Mother: "So many troops are working hard for us every day. So many are giving the ultimate sacrifice, and we appreciate them too. And it truly was an honor for the president to mention our son."
And, according to President Bush, more sacrifice will be necessary. He says the terror threat is not gone, more threats are looming.
President Bush: "For all that is new about this war, one thing has not changed; victory still depends on the courage, the patience and the resolve of the American people."
The President says there are no guarantees in wartime, but he does admit: America is in this fight for the long haul.

Low saliva twins! I never have met anyone else with this problem till now. It took me a long time to figure out why I choked on food so often, even though I listened to my mama and eat slowly, taking small bites. I also am always thirsty and carry a 16-oz. glass of water with me everywhere, from room to room at home and a bottle of water when I go outside.
Creamed corn and crumbled bacon.....I'm getting hungry again...lol
