Foster Parents Left Toddler In Closet, Prosecutor Says Deters: Boy Was Dead When Couple Returned
POSTED: 2:26 pm EDT August 28, 2006 UPDATED: 3:17 pm EDT August 28, 2006
Foster parents Liz and David Carroll have been arrested in connection with the disappearance and death of 3-year-old Marcus Fiesel.
Hamilton County prosecutor Joe Deters said the Carrolls have been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Fiesel's foster family said the special-needs toddler disappeared from Julifs Park in Anderson Township almost three weeks ago, sparking a massive search for nearly three days.
But Deters said the Carrolls left Fiesel in a closet for two days starting Aug. 4 while they were at a family reunion in Kentucky.
"They intentionally left him there," Deters said.
When the Carrolls returned on Aug. 6, Deters said, Fiesel was dead.
David Carroll then allegedly took the body to Brown County and incinerated it, Deters said. The body has not yet been recovered.
"The bottom line is you wouldn't treat your dog like this," Deters said.
Both of the Carrolls are in custody and formal charges were submitted to a grand jury Monday, Deters said.
You're welcome!
Update, they found his body in a Chimney in rural Brown County. The live-in girlfriend was apparently the one who told the Police where he was.
This entire story is just turning my stomach. It's a shame that we live in a country with so many non-profit and gov't agencies to assist those in need, when crimes of this nature seem to occur more often. Rather than let the case worker use his/her judgment (assuming there was no reason to question the foster family), some strict procedures need to be implemented and followed involving 'what if' scenarios. Very Sad :(
May the Lord influence the DA to properly charge this couple rather than turn it into a political show. They knew what they were doing (clear and concise thinking), an entire conspiracy from the time that closet door shut to last day the lying foster mom spent in the hospital. Involuntary manslaughter is total disgrace to the entire judicial system.
Now who was it that decided to remove vigilantism as form of punishment??
May Marcus rest in peace.
Deters apparently said that involunatary manslaughter was just to hold them. Expect the charges to be raised. Deters is a good guy and doesn't mess around.
There are times I think I would like to serve on their juries to make sure they get what they deserve, but I know that my mind probably could not stand to hear all the facts .
The prosecutor said that he and his staff would have a fist fight over the chance to put Marcus's murderers on death row.
I got the rope. Let's get on with due process, pdq!
I heard on wlw that some family members dropped the dime.
Fine. So, they wrap him up in a cocoon, complete with duct tape and put him in the closet. (Heard on the Cincinnati radio).
Shallow end of the gene pool in action. I got the rope
this is just horrific....
I have dear friends who are foster parents.
The father was a foster child himself, the mother was a schoold teacher....
they have a non=profit org, they are trying to raise money to buy the farm they are leasing to purchase right now.
In July- we brought a group of homeless children from downtown Atlanta out to the farm- we let them ride horses, feed the goats, go fishing, etc...
Chik-Fil-A supplied lunch for all the children and the volunteers....
They are battling the state right now also- they have room for 14 children, but are only allowed 6 unless they turn into an INSTITUTION and then they cannot live with the children like a family- they have to hire people to care for the kids.....
the system is a mess.
They are approved through the BAIR FOUNDATION... a Christian Foster Parent Agency-- a LOT tougher to be approved by them than the state.
It breaks me heart... these children have been through enough- then scum like this exist....
then you have foster kids living in hotels because there is "no room" for them- and then you have people like my friends just begging for more children to care for...
frustrating....
very frustrating....
they can leave the state with them... they need approval- filing out paper-work- at least here in GA that is the way it goes...
they also have what they call "respit care"
this is where other foster parents can care for children when you take a trip or just need a weekend off.
but then the "respit care" parents get the money for those days.....
This is one more of a seemingly endless more and more depraved series of crimes. We need to shoren the time between crime & punishment.
There is a site at http://www.geocities.com/ahousedivided1998 that talks about parents losing their kids to CPS. It's a horrible story.
