Not much of a mystery - if the cord moved while the shutter was open, it would have blurred and would then become more difficult to see against a dark BG - if you look you can see the blur. Nope. The bottom of the cord is not blurred, the way it would have to be if the middle were vibrating so much that the image would be missed by the camera while the shutter was open.

Motion blur for sure, imo.
She is stepping on the cable slightly, keeping the bottom part of the cord still enough to show up well.

What the hell is the point of hiding the mic chord? You can clearly see the shaft of space where the chord was photoshopped out. My guess is that the chord was cutting an unattractive line across the middle of the shot and someone decided to edit it out.
Maybe it's no big deal in the scheme of things, but it's symptomatic of a press that has no business mis-representing anything, no matter how small it it.
