Second best tank in the world next to you know who...
The Merkava is very well adapted to urban warfare.

Colonel Moti Kidor, Commander of the 401 Armored Corps Brigade, however, says that "those who ask these questions simply don't understand the field, and unfortunately these include senior IDF officers. When you look at the full picture, one understands that during the war hundreds of antitank missiles were fired, and in total 18 tanks were damaged. Of those, missiles penetrated only five or six. It's an outstanding machine.

As usual, the media painted an unrealistically negative picture during the actual events - probably because their sources are terrorists and they take the terrorists' words as the truth over anybody else's.

You will always need infantry to protect tanks...

No tanks were harmed in the making of this war!

I hope Col Moti has some "stuff" for the 'duck and cover' mode.
Incoming.

A little off-topic, but does anyone know how the Type 90 (the *Japanese* Type 90, not the ChiCom tank of the same name) measures up compared to most western MBT's?

Like every tank in the past and in the future, the Merkava MK 4 is vulnerable. It's basically like asking why a chopper fell. If you strike it, it falls. Come on now. That's way too complicated for a liberal to understand.

What's interesting and different about the Merkava than other MBTs is that it carries eight soldiers in the back. The engine is up front and so it is also a troop carrier.
At the rear center is a clamshell door for them to load and unload. It hardly looks possible but they do ride back there.

A tank might be disabled, taken out of action, and still be repairable, essentially not destroyed at all but just unavailable for that particular task at that time.

Hmmm...I thought the MSM said 30 tanks destroyed. Maybe they were being
a bit too optomistic (for their Hezbollah buddies).
I'll give the Merkava the "neatest turret" award. So sharp, it
looks like you could cut your hand on it.
