Katherine Harris encourages people of all faiths to engage in government
Katherine Harris Campaign Press Release ^ | August 26, 2006 | Harris for Senate campaign

Posted on 08/27/2006 2:38:55 PM PDT by JulieRNR21

STATEMENT OF CLARIFICATION

TAMPA--In a recent article published in the Florida Baptist Witness, Congresswoman Katherine Harris was asked to comment on the interplay of faith and politics in the public square. In the interview, Harris was speaking to a Christian audience, addressing a common misperception that people of faith should not be actively involved in government. Addressing this Christian publication, Harris provided a statement that explains her deep grounding in Judeo-Christian values.

Bryan Rudnick, Harris for Senate Campaign Manager stated, "I joined this campaign because Congresswoman Harris is a passionate supporter of Israel, the Jewish people and always has the best interests of all Floridians at heart. As the grandson of Holocaust survivors, I know that she encourages people of all faiths to engage in government so that our country can continue to thrive on the principles set forth by our Founding Fathers, without malice towards anyone."

In Congress, Katherine Harris has consistently supported pro-Israel legislation. Representative Harris co-sponsored numerous resolutions including: H. Con. Res. 248, to honor the life and work of Simon Wiesenthal and to reaffirm Congress' commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of intolerance; H.Con.Res. 392, to recognize the 58th anniversary of the independence of the State of Israel; H.Con.Res. 101, to push for the European Union to add Hezbollah to its list of terrorist organizations; and H.Res. 575, to stress that Hamas and other terrorist organizations should not take part in elections held by the Palestinian Authority.

As a Florida State Senator, Katherine Harris co-sponsored S. 3062, the Holocaust and Yom Hashoah Victims Resolution, encouraging observation of the day to remember the horrific tragedy of the Holocaust. While serving as Secretary of State, Congresswoman Harris advocated for funding for the Florida - Israel Linkage Institute to promote business/ cultural/educational/technological exchanges, and she traveled to Israel for personal and professional purposes. As Harris frequently reminds voters in her campaign speeches for the U.S. Senate, she is committed to standing by Israel.

To quote a very good friend of mine "She is arrogant and tempermental!"

It is never her fault and noticed the KH crowd on here thinks the same thing that everyone is out to get her because nothing she says is her fault.

Like attracts like....

I'm really upset with the trashing of Katherine Harris.

I think Karl Rove was against her from the beginning and the continuous trashing and attacks against her are the result of both the GOP establishment and the liberal media doing their dirty work.

That's sad and she should have had Jeb and W Bush by her side from the beginning.

If her name had been Specter they probably would have been around.

Now we're blaming Rove? Did I take a wrong turn at Alberquerque and end up in DU?

Rove didn't force Harris to lie repeatedly, and he didn't make her talk about excluding non-Christians from government.

Katherine Harris is her own worst enemy.

So much for personal responsibility!

She was just saying that her comments were taken way out of proportion.

No, they were not taking way out of context. She should stop making excuses for her own gaffes and foibles by blaming everyone else for them, and quit being a horses ass at every turn and drop out for the good of the party, and endorse a more viable candidate. It's her fault most of her campaign staff left her in droves.

I think Jeb Bush knows her more personally than you do.

My family in Ohio are all supporting Blackwell.

At least Blackwell isn't suffering from foot-in-mouth disease.

"...this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence..."

"...endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights..."

"...to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them..."

HINT: It's called The Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. "So help me God."

Relax. I'm a Presbyterian and serve on the Church Session. Don't get into lecturing me on the Declaration of Independence, The United States Constitution.

My point was that ones religion should have no bearing on what type of person one is. My best college friend is a Jew, my daughter-in-law is a Hindu. Go sell your "you have to believe in my God" mantra to someone who cares what YOU think I have to pray to.

Where do these people come from?

Ultra-liberal Bill Nelson is supported by MoveOn.org. He represents the lunatic left, not Florida. Voting for Nelson is the same as voting for Chappaquiddick Kennedy and Hanoi Kerry, who are the "pride" of MassAssChusetts.

From the Washington Times, July 5, 2005:

"MoveOn.org, the leftist, anti-war Internet group that spent millions of dollars last year trying to elect liberals and posted a clip likening President Bush to a Nazi, is raising money for two Democratic Senate candidates who call themselves mainstream moderates.
The group, which has been running TV ads against the war in Iraq, is soliciting money on its political action committee's (PAC) Web site for the 2006 campaigns of Sen. Bill Nelson, Florida Democrat, and Robert Casey Jr., Pennsylvania's state treasurer."

My husband thought about this and was the treasurer for someone's campaign. Not for me, however.

There are some to whom no matter what Katherine Harris says, they are going to come to unfair or biased conclusions. They never liked her and will never like anything she does or says. She should just go on forward and not dwell on this. The more she tries to "undo" something (and I didn't hear the original statement) the bigger the pile of ravellings becomes. That is the only thing I thought the Clintoons did right...they never tried to qualify anything they said...and it would finally die from inactivity on their part. She is a gutsy lady and will overcome this just like she has so many other criticisms. I will not respond to hateful posts, so don't anyone even go there.

All the more reason NOT to vote for Harris. They're both on the fringes.

It is not an unfair conclusion to take her by her own words. She said not voting in Christians is legislating sin. That is wholly discriminatory and unconstitutional.

"They'd never liked her anyway" is sour grapes.

Now there's a debate for governor tomorrow night. Maybe Katherine Harris will have a televised debate soon.

Let's focus on what's ahead instead of going off on tangents. This very article flies in the face of the article that we saw linked on the Fla state board.

Threads about religion at FR have already been like minefields.

It appears that the United States is having a culture war between groups like the ACLU, the separators of church & staters and the judiciary in large measure against people of faith or even people who simply have common sense and respect the rights of others.

The tug of war in Florida is between the RINOS and the true conservative republicans.

The RINOS already side with the libs. I hope that true conservative republicans like KH win or put a fork in Florida, it's done. Transfer the Ninth Circuit in San Fran here because this will seem like home to them.
