Let's all admit that we ALL (with rare exception) would have caved. It's a very human thing - and part of who we are in a democratic society... It actually differentialtes us from the Muzzies.
So let's leave these guys (the Fox News boys) to enjoy their freedom without us being so gawd-damned judgemental...

I haven't been judgemental. I have commented on how these events have reminded me of Revelation. If that bothers you, then perhaps you have a problem.
To: CaptainCanada
Let's all admit that we ALL (with rare exception) would have caved. Then why are we discussing this? Go ahead and convert to Islam. I will never. This makes ME the problem for you and the apologists, and soon to be converted. Go through my posts and name the religion that I adhere to.
To: Old_Mil; All
I haven't seen the tape, so I'm gathering these could have been conversions of convenience. Now, to all the brave folks in front of their keyboards with a mug of hot cocoa speaking out how brave THEY would be in this particular situation, let me say, you have absolutely no idea what you would do in that situation. What's that mental condition when taken hostage, oh yeah, STOCKHOLM SYNDROME.
Anyway, it is possible one could resist conversion and quite possible be beheaded and have it said they converted to islam anyway. Which goes to the lack of planning on behalf of the kidnappers. The smart thing to do would be to get the conversion, THEN behead/kill the convert to prevent "retraction" or backsliding.
I wish I could take credit for that gem but if I'm not mistaken it was Cyril the Bulgar Slayer. Yes, that Cyril, the inventor of the Cyrillic alphabet.

I agree with you. I pray the Lord gives me strength beyond my own, should I ever need to face this test. There are things which mean more than this life and words do indeed have meaning.

I know you were quoting the reporters. Their comment was the wrong thing to say. But who knows, they were probably so happy to get out of their situation, they didn't realize exactly what impression they were leaving with the public.

Would it be morally correct for every member of our elected government to convert to Islam, in order to preserve the mortal being of at least one person? It would be Abomination.
The moral vacuity of many on this thread speaks volumes.

Saw my head of with a butter knife but I'll never forsake my God. If one were to "convert" to Islam under gunpoint and under duress, don't you think an omnipotent deity like God would be smart enough to recognize that it wasn't a real conversion? And wouldn't you then be forgiven?
Enjoy your beheading...my God will give forgiveness for lying to murderous zealots.

Sorry, I do think so ... twice over ...
First reported case
Dear Yahoo!:
What is "Stockholm Syndrome"?
Ben
Cincinnati, Ohio
Dear Ben:
Stockholm Syndrome describes the behavior of kidnap victims who, over time, become sympathetic to their captors. The name derives from a 1973 hostage incident in Stockholm, Sweden. At the end of six days of captivity in a bank, several kidnap victims actually resisted rescue attempts, and afterwards refused to testify against their captors.
While some people are suggesting the recent Elizabeth Smart kidnapping sounds like a case of Stockholm Syndrome, the most famous incident in the U.S. involved the kidnapped heiress Patty Hearst. Captured by a radical political group known as the Symbionese Liberation Army in 1974, Ms. Hearst eventually became an accomplice of the group, taking on an assumed name and assisting them in several bank robberies. After her re-capture, she denounced the group and her involvement.

Well, the comment has been made that it was 'young men fervent in their religion' who were behind thisIf you're able, you can search for the last video broadcast of Centanni prior to his abuction.
You can see two men...one in a black and white horizontally stiped shirt that walk in and out of the frames on several occasions and look back.
Probably them....

You're so right. It's good to ponder this issue and resolve how we intend to respond should we ever be put to the test. Otherwise, we'll quickly cave in without serious consideration of the consequences. Obviously, remaining loyal to Christ under the threat of death would be a rare and difficult response. It's true that Christ reinstated Peter after Peter denied Christ three times. Ironically, we are tempted to downplay a coerced confession because our God is so wonderfully forgiving and merciful. But the Bible indicates that at some point, our failure to remain loyal to Christ, even under thread of being beheaded, will have eternal consequences.
And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name."

I just had a conversation with my mom, who said no problem the hostages were just keeping themselves alive. ButI worry that is the wrong answer.See? And, IMO, THAT is the problem.
Please allow the rest of us to examine how deep is our faith. Not for those two men, but for ourselves...
Why here? Why not start your own thread?
