Ambiguous is the operative word.

When they asked Crist and Gallagher about off shore drilling, Gallagher gave and answer. Crist gave a sob story about watching an oil spill back in the 60s, and ducked half the question.

I thought right then, if I want to hear sob stories and feelings, I'd vote Democrat.

The insurance situation has actually gotten better since he retook control of it as CFO

LOL!!

People rates are going up 300-700%.

You must work for the Gallagher campaign.

He has ZERO chance of winning the general.

“Here in Florida, as badly as we’ve been shafted by the insurance industry, I’m extremely skeptical of anyone taking that money,” said Ken Berry, a Merritt Island voter whose home premium jumped sixfold to $6,000, so high he can’t afford to buy it. Many of his neighbors, faced with the same financial crunch, are leaving.

“The ‘For Sale’ signs are going up all over my neighborhood,” Berry said, a fact he blames on politicians who “owe their allegiance, instead of to the people they’re representing, they owe it to big business.”

While the Republican Party of Florida collected $3.5 million from insurance companies and their executives, no candidate pulled in industry checks like Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher.

The former state insurance regulator’s run for the Republican gubernatorial nomination got a big initial kick from insurance interests. That sector’s contributions so far to Gallagher and a political committee set up to support him: $780,000.
Gallagher, whose honorary finance chairman, Tom Petway, runs an insurance company, said his public role is as consumer advocate.--news-press.com Tallahassee Bureau

Support the starvation and dehydration of a helpless woman? Disgusting.

Support civil unions, gay adoption, a "Guest" Worker program and reckless spending too?

Support Charlie's lies?

Thanks for giving us a preview into the mind of a still-Crist supporter.

I don't work for the campaign but it seems that you are completely unfamiliar with the issues as well as with the polls.

Yes, insurance has skyrocketed. The alternative was to leave house uninsured. Increased storms are forecasted and no company is biting. The situation here has changed radically and if it weren't for Tom's work on Citizen's we'd really be up a creek.

Tom is trying to get more competition into the state and no one is biting. He's received high marks for his effort. If you think Crist can do anything different then you just don't know the situation.

People here realize it. Head to head hypotheticals against Davis show both DemoRat Charlie and Republican Gallagher beating him. The difference is that Gallagher's numbers have remained solid while Crist's have fallen.

No one likes a liar and that will kill Crist's chances.

He's been supported by all financial services. He's been a stellar CFO. Crist is supported by judges, "moderate" academics and illegals.

Gotcha.

Haven't paid any attention to that race, wasn't aware what was going on.

What's the opposition look like?

Why Crist over Gallagher? Any particular reason? I'm not so sure that Crist sounds like a conservative. Quite seriously, I'd like to hear what you two think. Thanks!

People rates are going up 300-700%. You must work for the Gallagher campaign. He has ZERO chance of winning the general.

And those rates aren't going to stabelize any time soon. Check out Ernesto's track this morning.

Last night over many, many drinks while watching a sambista dance by our table, we were talking about the new rates we're facing. It's going to be a crushing increase and between Jan 2006 and February 2007 when my escrow begins to reflect the change, it will show a $450 a month increase for that period. No kidding, that will be ONLY insurance.

People toss out the old "Well, maybe you shouldn't live in Florida" comment. But we're talking about almost every single homeowner facing the same thing. This is not inconvenience, it is a crisis and to summarily dismiss it is ridiculous.

Insurance companies are robbing people, taking in huge increases in premiums and refusing to pay claims is SOP, as long as the keep greasing Gallaghers and the state GOP's pocket.

Wonder if Davis will do anything about it, its simple enough, either companies sell windstorm or they don't sell anything in FL and set up a state insurance program fo windstorm ony similiar to federal flood insurance with similiar premiums.

Why is it I can but 150K of FFI for about 300 bucks a year but the same windstorm now costs 3000?

I have a buddy who's a state lawyer up in Tallahassee and he says the talk is leaning towards a state windstorm pool and let private industry cover the other details. I don't have details so until something solid comes down from there who knows what shape it will take. All I can say is that you can't let every homeowner take a $250-400 a month hit and expect anything good or prosperous come from it. It can only be described as a crisis and needs to be treated as one.

I don't really know much about Gallagher outside of his tenure as Ins Comm.

I don't consider that position to be a resume enhancer. Having been self employed most of my adult life, I have had the crap screwed out of me by health insurance companies. And I am not referring to high premiums and such. I understand the real world. I am talking about fraud, price fixing and refusal to honor contracts. Which is endemic in non-group health coverage. No, to be more accurate, it is SOP.

Anyway, I never received any help from the Florida Ins Comm office on anything, and some of the industry practices are out and out fraud. Unless they are standing in your living room while an insurance company employee is beating you with a baseball bat, they won't do squat.

Refusal to honor contracts is also something the AG's office handles. Crist has done nothing. He should be imposing fines which would go a long way in solving the crazy business practices of many companies in FL without costing us to incarcerate the fraud artists, etc. (something that shouldn't be done for non-violent offenders).

I'm also self employed. Have you looked into Blue Cross and Humana's basic programs? They are very reliable.

Glad you're on board. Crist was ahead by 20 points until last week. Now it's down to 10 and 29% are undecided. This is the kind of tightening that ends up turning the primary. As always, only the base will come out on mass and that's very good for Tom.

Charlie shot himself in the foot when supported gay adoption in a radio interview. During the debates he announced support for "civil" unions with a condescending "I have an open mind and a live and let live attitude" and made crazy spending promises.

Mon. night is Debate #2. I'd say put a fork in him.

Sorry to chime in but they've been asked that a million times. The only thing they say in the face of Crist's support for gay adoption, civil unions and reckless spending is that Crist is ahead. They forget how primary polls have always been way off and among the base, those most likely to vote, Gallagher now has a huge lead.

One guy said that Crist is more electable. That's ridiculous. Crist made promises that were blatant lies ($5,000 per year per adopted child - no hope of passing) and that turns a lot of people off. He was ahead of Davis in a hypothetical until he aired commercials. Gallagher has stayed ahead.

No. My wife went back to work and we were able to get on group ins through her employer. Right now she is looking for a job (since we moved) and we are COBRA for the time being.

My comments were basically a rant (though correct).

Although I have said it many times, it bears repeating:
Two industries are exempt from federal antitrust laws. One is MLB, the other is insurance. If insurance were subject to these laws, as is everyone else, I believe there would be violations up the wahzoo.

Hope you and your wife have success.

Btw Just a thought for what it's worth - There's a need for financial planners and they hire well if that's an area she's interested in.

Why do you keep saying Charlie Crist is pro gay adoption? He has gone on record repeatedly opposing gay adoption.
