I'm not surprised that Newark missed it.

From reading the article, he was just transporting dynamite in his luggage, not an actual bomb. What is all the excitement about? As another FReeper often posts, "Nothing to see here, move along"

I can't tell if they found explosives, or just residue.

A friend of mine works with C-4 on occasion and does demonstrations. Some of the people witnessing the demonstrations have been stopped in the airport on their way home because of the residue. The didn't even handle the live explosives, just the aftermath.

So, if it was just residue, then his story sounds very plausible.

Hi All-

Perhaps the student was taking the dynamite to go fishing on the last few days before classes resume?

That's it, I'm buying my own personal Learjet so I can travel the world without the hassles of flying on the major airlines.

Of course, I'll need some donations or a winning lottery ticket first.

Very confusing article -- It appears that no dynamite was found after the dog alerted to the residue but I'm not sure about that.

News Flash, Dynamite is a Bomb in itslef. If heated to certain degrees or placed under certain stress levels it can and will explode.

But what the heck, Napolean Dynamite meant no harm.
Again, they dont have a clue, and write it off as a kids harmless no harm mistake.

Why not?

Wait, it's illegal to carry dynamite on a plane? Wow, I always pack a couple of sticks in my carry-on. Duh!

To possibilities:
1. The student was either checking airline security, or
2. The student was coming up here to help a friend blow stumps in the South Forty.

Very confusing article.

Is this what happened?: Plane from Argentina lands in Houston, where the bag was checked. Passenger and bag stay in Houston, plane continues on to Newark? Or did they find the stuff in Houston, determine there was no threat, and then passenger and and bag continue on to Newark?
