Bob Laurence, TV critic for the San Diego Union-Tribune, sent a letter to Romenesko setting forth a couple of reasons for the scant coverage given to the kidnapping in Gaza of two Fox News journalists (via Michelle):
... Fox has deliberately set itself apart from other news media. Starting at the top with Roger Ailes, the Fox sales pitch has been to deride other media, to declare itself the one source of the real truth, the sole source of 'fair and accurate' news reporting. As a result, there's not a reservoir of kinship or good will with Fox on the part of the rest of the news media. You can't keep insulting people and then expect friendship when you need it.
You stay classy, San Diego.
Why write to the author? Think he is going to change his mind? Try writing to the paper itself, maybe they will get in the hands of his boss.

You know this is simply a remarkable statment.
He seems utterly unaffected by the fact these men were kidnapped. His primary interest is in trashing the brand of FOX news.
A wicked and indecent man.
We were talking about this on the ME thread...you have got to see this..
Just sent a copy of my letter to them too.
And yet, a large number of people still get their news from these scum bags.
CNN
CBS
NBC
ABC
New York Slimes and, other MSM slim balls.
Thanks, SE. I can't believe that professional jealousy could lead to this. I'm trying to find a term for it and I'm failing.
What a disgusting pissant.
Try the paper's advertisers, too.
Here is my e-mail to Mr. Laurence:
Once upon a time there was a schoolyard. Every day during recess it was filled with children playing and laughing together.
As often happens, the children grouped themselves in various little sections according to the kinds of games they liked best.
One day, some of the children didn't return with the others to the classroom after recess. No one paid much attention till it was time to go home. The teachers were concerned and set about searching for them. The other children were secretly glad because they didn't like the games the missing children played. They laughed about it and talked about how smart they were for playing the best games in the schoolyard. A week went by and none of the missing children were found. The other children went on.. not paying attention or worrying about their schoolmates.
It required a grown-up to talk with the children and teach them it was wrong not to wonder, care and worry about the fate of their schoolmates. But for these children it didn't matter- they never listened to the grown-ups They pretended to listen- but they didn't, not truly.... and so they never grew up.
Please tell this little tale to your children and ask them if they would want to have friends as these.
Painful and poignant. I wonder if he will understand.
Holy crap! So let me get this straight. Your life is not worth squat unless you work for one of the media outlets other than that dastardly "right-wing" Fox News? I know the Left and its media shills are pretty danged low, but this is lower than pond scum.
IOW, Fox has chosen not to "go along and get along" but to compete on the basis of its perspective. As a result, there's not a reservoir of kinship or good will with Fox on the part of the rest of the news media. You can't keep insulting people and then expect friendship when you need it.
Fox doesn't project the idea that all journalists are objective. It takes a certain arrogance to make that your criterion for respecting someone's humanity. But I doubt Mr. Lawrence is capable of seeing that . . .
Terms are easy to find if one uses blue language. Sometimes it's tough staying out of the gutter, because the only way to describe gutter runners is to use their language.
Agreed- and I attempted to take your advice- see # 69.
I could spit nails I'm so mad at what Laurence said- bad enough to know he THINKS this way...
I got so sick over this, Wolfstar, that I threw up. I was speechless. Maybe that was the only possible comment. Is it like the okay to kill Jews thing? I mean, they do things differently, they approach things diffently. This even though Centanni just kind of, well, reported what he was observing. Was that his sin? Obviously I'm upset about this.
Don't you think that they will not open the email? I simply said that someone who can't sympathize with the kidnapped reporter isn't human and asked him to examine himself --- all in the subject line.
His argument is that the victims who were kidnapped by terrorists brought this on themselves by being arrogant?
Absurd, and disgusting.
