Buchanan warns of flood of illegals
Washington Times ^ | August 22, 2006 | Eric Pfeiffer

Posted on 08/22/2006 2:32:39 PM PDT by VU4G10

Pat Buchanan says illegal immigration from poor and developing countries will overwhelm the United States and other Western countries in the next 50 years unless something is done. "We've already won the battle with the public," Mr. Buchanan tells The Washington Times. "The question is, when will the government respond?" In his book, however, Mr. Buchanan saves his strongest criticism for President Bush, writing: "Concerned about his legacy, George W. Bush may yet live to see his name entered into the history of his country as the president who lost the American Southwest that James K. Polk won for the United States."

Thank you. I'll check that out later this evening. I have not seen it before.

Pat Buchanan is going to be on Hanity & Colmes tonight, discussing his book and his views.

This will be the first time I watched it in a long time. I gave up on it when the show became the "Duke Lacrosse Hour."

"He just has such a hard time getting past that dark, bitter stripe in his head to see things in a natural light. To me he seems like a bitterist* with some conservative leanings."

He is very dour, kind of the Tom Coughllin (NY Giants football coach) of political discourse. Still, I think his views on immigration and border security make more sense than "Gringo George's" plan (Y'all come now)."

I don't believe for one minute that GWB and most of the population are clueless.

I semi-disagree with you. W is certainly not clueless. But most of the country is. Ask one hundred people what year 9-11 happened, and 70% will be wrong. Ask 100 people who Dick Cheney is, and half don't know. Only 24% of the population know what the three branches of government are. The list is endless...

BTW, I'm not a Buchanan ffan, but he makes a lot of sense on this, our country's, immigration problem.

Just because other people disagree with you on what to do about a situation does not mean that the situation is not obvious to them, or that they are clueless.

Did I say anything about disagreeing with anyone? It is amazing how you can make that assumption. Are you a soothsayer, the Amazing Kreskin, or Carnac?

I'm sorry you are so, to use your verb, "disturbed"

My mistake. He isn't a guest, just a response to his book from Linda Chavez, Illegal immigrant apologist..

How about we "respomd" to the gaping holes in our borders! Illegal immigration was a problem prior to 9/11 in the costs of education, health, social services etc.. and since 9/11 it is a problem in terms of security.

Do you leave your front door unlocked? Would you if you knew there were 'extremists' roaming your neighborhood? Wake up: we are at war.

To equate the massive influx of illegal immigrants crossing our borders to people who immigrated here legally through Ellis Island is just plain stupid.

I never even mentioned President Bush in my post. The government is suppose to do the will of We the People, but too often, even when We are heard, they do the will of pandering for reelection. You may not think that wide open borders, with Illegals streaming over them, is a problem, but I do. And I will scream.

O'Reilly stood his ground and ended by telling Chavez that Mexico is exporting its poverty and labor problem to the United States.

O'Reilly has an ego, but I can't understand why so many FReepers hate him.

Chavez's attitude basically is so what if the country will be 1/4 hispanic... That is a big deal. She doesn't get it.

I love your new word. Might I borrow it some--possibly even BIDEN it now and again?

I hereby grant full and free rights to adopt, adapt, and widely use the new word, "bitterist."

(It just seemed to be so ... Pat ... you know?)

Please help me out here -- what does it mean to BIDEN a word?

"We've already won the battle with the public," Mr. Buchanan tells The Washington Times.

Tell me, does that sound like most of the country is clueless? I'm quoting from the original post. I don't want to fuss with you about this, as we probably agree. There was a time when I would have voted for Pat Buchanan. That time has passed. I can't recall what he did to sour me, but something did. REGARDLESS, I agree with a lot he says about this subject. You see, I live in San Diego area and I know the issue.

I agree GEM. Listen long enough, and he does begin to sound dour and bitter. Sadly, I truly believe that he is not fit for public office. (Now I feel really bad saying that, but I believe what I'm saying).

It was FATHER COUGHLIN, A Roman Catholic priest who had a radio show; NOT some N.Y.Giants football coach, who HEAVILY influenced Pat Buchanan.

Pat's "favorite" GOP president, Ronald Wilson Reagan, who gave BLANKET AMNESTY to ALL illegals.

You are reading things that aren't there again, nopardons.

I said his demeanor was like Tom Coughlin's. I know who Fr. Coughlin was. In fact, I reside in the Detroit area and my son played against Shrine High School many times.

How you doing protecting the northern border from the IRA? Must be doing a good job, cause they have not been accused of any gang rapes, drug smuggling or other crimes.

I feel safer just knowing you are protecting us.

And pat buchanan never fails to mention that he worked with Reagan who signed blanket amnesty and was against buchanan's building of walls, but pat never mentions that he had a bigger position in the Nixon White House.

I was doing a google news search about pat and this link from the very liberal media matters with a video clip of pat today on the Today show.

Pat sounds like a union boss with his hatred of business.

I don't know what media matters is complaining about.

I get depressed listening to him, and that is always a tell-tale marker for me about what is going on inside the speaker. I used to work for a guy, a really awesome guy, who taught me that trick. He was in a line of work that could really depress a person (helping people after disabling accidents to put their lives back together), and he said he could always tell when someone was depressed; if he (my boss) felt depressed after being with the person, he knew the person was depressed. Of course, the clients were evaluated scientifically for depression and this was his own test -- but it always panned out.

The nice part of that conversation was my boss told me he never felt depressed after he spoke with me. ;-)
