Shocker: Democrat lead in US House race drops to only two points (the worm is turning Smithers)

And just as I reported earlier today on the problems with the Gallup poll and other surveys showing a bias for Democrats, the Gallup poll suddenly reports a dramatic drop in the Democrat lead in the US House race to only two points.

In a poll taken over the weekend, the poll of registered voters shows that Democrats now lead only 47%-45% which is down from a nine percentage point lead earlier in August. This is well within the poll's margin of error (+-4%) so the race is essentially even. It is the best showing for Republicans in this poll since just before the 2004 November election when Democrats were ahead by four points among registered voters, but Republicans still won the popular U.S. vote and a 232-203 lead in House seats.

According to the poll, the sudden focus on the war on terror has greatly helped the GOP. The poll states that "President Bush's approval rating has topped 40% for the first time since February...Behind the movements: In the wake of the terror plot that British authorities say they broke up, Bush seems to have gotten a boost. Some of that may have reflected positively on Republican candidates as well.

Lib Republicans like yourself would definitely see a genuine conservative candidate like Graf as a threat. Problem is, unless you live in the district, you gotta vote for your own libs.

Gerald Ford's people felt the same way about Ronald Reagan. Which one of them is revered?

Two reasons why the GOP will hold both houses:

1- Even though Americans haven't been happy with the GOP, they still don't trust the Democrats to run things, especially on national security.

2- As much as Iraq is unpopular right now, Americans know the Dems would pursue the infamous cut and run policy, leading to an Arabic Saigon, which would then mean it would be open season on US interests around the world. Like the Russians before them, nothing encourages Arabs and Islamofacists so much as percieved weakness.

"4. Try and get some kind of limit on political speech on the internet"

Sorry, but John McCain beat them to it. It's called "the Campaign Finance Reform Act" and it precludes the use of broadcast, print or online media to discuss a political opponent's record, launch "attack" ads, or run "issue-advocacy ads" in which an opponent (typically the "incumbant") is the obvious target (i.e he/she/it is mentioned by name or by other means intended to identify said opponent, are used), within 30 days of a primary or 60 days of a general election.

We don't have to worry about democrats (small "d" intentional) restricting free-speech, since our own conservatives (really small "c" required) have done it for them.
