A Winnipeg doctor is demanding an official apology and compensation from United Airlines after being kicked off a flight in the U.S. this week, an incident he has characterized as "institutionalized discrimination." Dr. Ahmed Farooq, a Muslim, was escorted off an airplane in Denver on Tuesday. According to Farooq, reciting his evening prayers was interpreted by one passenger as an activity that was suspicious.

"The whole situation is just really frustrating," Farooq said. "It makes you uneasy, because you realize you have to essentially watch every single thing you say and do, and it's worse for people who are of colour, who are identifiable as a minority."

Farooq said the allegation came from a passenger who appeared drunk and had previously threatened him during the trip.

How stupid was he? Okay, we are so sorry that you were praying on an airline after Muslims used them for missiles and threatened to blow up more of them recently. How is that?

"I'm sure if some Christian started walking up and down the aisle loudly quoting scripture from Revelations, the same thing might have happened."

Right. Sure. Of course, it's well known that fundamentalist Christians are running around the globe blowing up All Things Non-Christian and sawing the heads off of Muslims and other on-Christians to the gleeful cries of "Praise to be to God!", etc. etc. The mere sight of a Christian professing his or her faith would be enough to engender an emergency landing, by golly.........you bet, son.

What utter, complete bullshit. I suppose you weren't in the debate club in high school.....

"He was just reciting his evening prayers" -- IOW, he got down on his hands and knees in the middle of the aisle and raised his butt in the air.

I would have just quietly attached a KICK ME post-it to his arse.

The white guy in the picture you posted was a professed atheist, in spite of being raised Catholic. He was not a Christian at the time he committed his act of terrorism.

Got any more examples?

We don't let violent, paranoid schizophreniacs fly on airplanes why should we let muslims fly?

Couldn't F*ckf*ce pray silently instead of annoying everyone else on the plane? Oh, that's right, that would have meant he would have had to be courteous to infidels, my bad.

McVeigh was not an atheist, and never claimed to be. He said he was agnostic. He received the Catholic last rites just before his execution.

You certainly took that the wrong way. My point is that any sort of unusual behavior is suspect on planes these days, and drawing attention to oneself in such a manner will get you special attention from the flight crew. Talking loudly about the world coming to an end would put a lot of people on full-pucker alert, and if the passenger didn't follow instructions to go back to his seat, but just went right on walking up and down the aisle testifying, he could expect security to meet him when he disembarked the plane, only to be charged with interfering with or not obeying the instructions of the flight crew.

I did not in any way, shape or form try to establish moral relativism between Islam and Christianity. It's so obvious to anyone here the difference between Christian behavior and that of the Islamists, I figured I wouldn't insult all the intelligent people here by pointing it out.

He said he was agnostic.

Agnostic != Christian

Atheists believe in no god. Agnostics take the position that they can not know whether or not there is a God. Christians believe in God.

Because someone gives a guy Catholic last rites, that doesn't make the guy a Christian.

he did this on purpose

he didn't have to pray after a passenger already showed some concern.

and if it was his "scheduled" prayer time- he could have "scheduled" his flight at a different time

I think he's just LOOKING for a lawsuit

the new Amewrican lottery!
