Ultimately, this kind of activity cannot be outlawed because people will simply refuse to fly unless absolutely necessary.

This occurrance IMO is a perfect example of citizen vigilance (positive vigilantism) caused by perceived government weakness.

In the gate waiting area, people had been talking about these two, who looked really suspicious with their heavy clothing, scruffy, rough, appearance and long hair.

Remember the old cartoons of the mad bombers throwing the round black bombs? They all seemed to look like this.

OK AMERICA... Let's get with it and follow our British Brothers example. Does anyone know what became of the mom who gave her previously detained cell phone, cash carrying son flight manifests??? After 9/11, Southwest Air in California had "employees" who looked like SWAT Hunks checking people in... I noticed a "perspiring, agitated Arab male, complaining, looking around like crazy, and I told this "hunk" employee that I was concerned with his behavior. He said, "don't worry, we've been watching him and he is NOT getting on this plane." He was behind me, they pulled him aside, put him behind a screen and stripped him. He never did get on the plane. Made me breathe easier... Politically incorrect? Maybe. But what other choices do we have. Better to err on the side of caution.

You're right - they're not. Which is why

1) the profiling needs to ask more than "Does this person look middle eastern?" It needs to be modeled on the El Al security system, which focuses on the totality of the person's behavior, not just ethnicity; and

2) some random screening needs to be retained.

Perhaps the "moderate" muslims (both of them) will start to get the message once civilized people refuse to be in their presence.
