It was the day before Christmas Eve 2005 when John Mark Karr sent an e-mail to University of Colorado professor Michael Tracey, seeking a strange favor. He asked Tracey to visit JonBenet Ramsey's old house in Boulder and read aloud an ode he called JonBenet, My Love.
"JonBenet, my love, my life. I love you and shall forever love you. I pray that you can hear my voice calling out to you from my darkness - this darkness that now separates us," it read, in part.
The e-mail was part of a small sample of the often lurid and disturbing correspondence between a person that investigators believe to be Karr and Tracey. The e-mails were obtained Thursday by the Rocky Mountain News from a source close to the investigation.
None includes any statements from Karr about his possible role in JonBenet's death. They do, however, include several interesting - and sometimes bizarre - exchanges between the two, including one in which Karr expresses concern that Tracey has obtained a photograph of him; another in which Karr said he was under federal investigation for "child murder and child molestation" in four states; and one in which the two traded views on the Peter Pan-related film Finding Neverland.

"It also said that Tracey wants to resume writing a book about the 10-year-old investigation and is planning to produce additional documentaries on the case, beyond the three he has already completed.
In a related development Thursday, the Daily Camera reported that Tracey shared details of his research into the Ramsey case with students months before he alerted authorities.
The paper reported former students as saying that someone sent Tracey a childhood picture of himself holding a white Santa Claus teddy bear and purportedly taken on a Christmas morning. The stuffed animal was apparently just like the one that mysteriously showed up in JonBenet's bedroom and stumped the family and investigators."
I think he got this idea from Hillary. Recall she attempted to commune with Eleanor Roosevelt in the same manner and she became a NY Senator.
You read my mind. What is the origin of their relationship? This whole thing is getting to be a cross between X files and L$O SVU. Were these guys a team 10 years ago. What is Tracey a professor of? Is he a mental health care professional who somehow managed to create a dependence and submissive response in this guy Karr? One other thing, this guy Karr is another three name suspect/murderer. Lee Harvey Oswald, Mark David Chapman, John Wayne Gacey et.al.
I have three names too. The whole world won't know them unless I become a serial killer or the like.
I usually can't stand Bill O'Reilly but his comments last night were right on the money - with the growth of 24/7 "news" there is this symbiotic relationship with the cable news shows and these headline grabbing stories and the potential nutcases looking for their 15 mins. BOR was very concerned about where this is all taking us and I can't help but agree.
No more obsessed than some of us freepers, LOL! I know there are some freepers who are far more knowledgeable about this case than a whole lot of teevee "experts." (I am not one of those freepers.)
I think this place draws a lot of people who like to research everything, as can be seen on the true crime threads, the archeological threads, and the tech threads; the political and war on terror threads have some of the best analyses anywhere, bar NONE.
I don't know if you're talking about the same segment I saw last night (didn't catch the whole show), but on this one, both he and Jane Hall agreed that you can't trust anything the media reports. They concentrated on the lack of proof for these stories, but I would have also gone more into the fake photos and made up articles angle--they did touch on these SLIGHTLY, but an entire hour could be devoted to the unreliability of media reports.
On this case alone:
1. Wednesday evening it was said the dna tests had already been done and proved Karr did it.
** By yesterday, they were saying there was no dna testing and no results at all.
2. Yesterday it was reported that Karr said he'd picked her up at school, and drugged her.
** Today, they are saying HE didn't say this at all, but the Thai police said it, thinking they were reporting known events--and of course at least the drugging didn't happen at all as per the autopsy, so they made it up.
I could add several other "changes" to this story, but you get the idea.
Until there's a trial (well, IF there's a trial), we're not going to be able to trust much that comes out. MSM is too lazy or arrogant to research the facts, and they don't seem to do any fact checking beyond getting the name right. (Sometimes they even fail on that!)
But how did a guy from Alabama get to know the Ramseys, and know enough about them to be able to invade their house in Boulder? And how did he get away from his own family over Christmas to do this?
I'm definitely waiting for more facts to come out before making a judgment on this.
More on the media hijinks--reporting these alibis without any fact checking, or even questioning why the brother, in one state, alibis him as being with him, and the ex-wife, in another state, says he was with her. Magicians claim to be able to "bi-locate" meaning to be in two places at the same time; this guy has one-upped them all, and TRI-locates, being at two different family Christmas gatherings in two different states PLUS being in Boulder--all at the same time.
One thing we most certainly know about this case: there are a lot of liars. Now, if we can just figure out which ones, so that we can get to the truth.
According to the timeline printed this morning, both Karr and his wife were from Alabama and lived there in 1996. They didn't move to California until later, around 2000 or 2001. Wife divorced the creep after he was charged with kiddie-porn and fled the country. Wife and the kids still live in California.
Couldn't agree more - didn't know all the details you supplied but agree totally with the conclusions.
Ok the segment you saw was after BOR's "Talking Points" editorial which came at the beginning of the show.
But the basic idea was that this whole trend was extremely "dangerous" - his word. With the internet and cable news etc. etc. the world has become one giant rumor mill. If you stand back and look at this phenomenon that can't be a good thing. I think Bernnard Goldberg also said that journalists have become "stenographers" - somebody says something they write it down and go with it. The whole thing just seems like it can't be good.
We'll see what MSM reports tomorrow. Sadly, MSM can't even be trusted with smaller stories like this one.
Seeing this kook at the press conference it's hard to believe he can even dress himself, much less pull off such a crime as the Ramsey murder.
This pedophile appears to be afraid of his own shadow, He imagines himself in love with a child, because like Michael Jackson, he lives in Neverland.
He found an Internet friend in the English prof, and played out his fantasy games with him.
I don't think he attended or graduated from College, so he can only substitute teach..
Before they release the results of the DNA tests, I hope they get his confession and how he says he managed to "do the crime" on tape. After that, they can give him the results..:)
sw
Exactly! Lazy and inept to describe the media analyst come to mind.
After all, he left a ransom note as "hard evidence" which proves that he didn't intend to kill her. Yeh, right!!
He was VERY careful to say out loud that
1. "It was an accident"
It was "2nd degree murder" because it was an accident.
