Former US President Bill Clinton called for the world to prepare to tackle the cultural taboos surrounding circumcision Tuesday if, as many expect, trials show that it protects men and the women they sleep with from AIDS.
In a speech to the International Aids conference in Toronto, Canada, Clinton said:
"Should this be shown to be effective, we will have another means to prevent the spread of the disease and to save lives, and we will have a big job to do. It is important that as we leave here we all be prepared for a green light that could have a staggering impact on the male population but that will be frankly a lot of trouble to get done."
Surprise support
Clinton also leaped to the defense of the Bush administration's AIDS efforts on Tuesday, saying the United States is spending more to fight HIV than any other government.
Clinton joined Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates in praising President George W. Bush's President's Emergency Program for AIDS Relief, saying it has done more good than harm.
Such support for the conservative Bush government was unexpected at the 16th International Conference on AIDS, a meeting held every two years where activists join researchers, funding agencies and aid groups to discuss the pandemic and, usually, denounce most governments for doing too little.
Clinton, whose foundation negotiates cheaper prices for drugs and HIV tests in developing nations, said PEPFAR has done a lot of good, despite a requirement that 33 percent of prevention funding be spent on abstinence-only programs.

Castration: The solution to Clinton
Clinton Circumcision - The Answer To AIDS
She has had a lot of surgery to hide it.
Your comment is so right in I just had to tell you.
I mean...they keep trying to run this bullshit by us, peeing on our feet and telling us it's raining.
Common sense. Political elites have none.
Aids is a homosexual disease. Yet they change reality on us all the time.
It is not so much in Africa or Asia. Even in Europe, a lot get it from using contaminated needles (drug users).
Do you know why Clintona always wears a neck tie?
Its to keep his foreskin from riding up over his face.
Happy 60th Bill! May you enjoy lots of erectile dysfuntion in the coming years, you b@st@rd traitor!
Depends on what you "think" it is
Calamari
Does it end with rubbing it and then it turns into luggage?
You're absolutely right and I forgot about contaminated needles.
Still,we're talking abnormal behavior here. The liberals would love to pin AIDS on heterosexuals and, indeed, have almost succeeded at it.
As an aside, I think circumcision on a guy is awful. No offense to circumcised men reading this as I know this was a routine procedure, never mind religion, in the era that I was born.
I've been married to circumcised and uncircumcised and I think uncircumcised is much more normal. Duh. If God wanted males born that way he would have so designed it. Cutting off skin after birth is a bit barbaric.
He just took tips.
OH MY GAWDDDDDDDD! Anything for the spotlight! Give it a rest bubbahead!
With a little grated cheeze, no? Nurses night out!
Yes, she sure has, but the resemblance is still there. Actually, some of the surgeries were definite improvements.
Obvious to those of us here. However, don't completely discount circumcision. Articles in the current JAMA showed being circumcised (the men NOT the women) reduced the males risk of getting HIV as much as using condoms. If they don't get it they can't spread it. If their parents provide such protection even the Clintonites at the DU couldn't scr*w up this partial protection. Circumcision is not the best or only solution, but it is useful as part of a solution.
I understand that many believe that circumcision is a good thing. I'm not a guy (!) so I can't comment. I'm just saying that a return to old-fashioned values would take away the worries that so many have now. The 60's were very destructive to our culture. Maybe the youth of today can learn to respect their bodies and other 's bodies. Instant gratification has become a way of life here. It's not a good thing. PS-the bulk of the male population in the world is not circumcised. It is just a custom here and a religious requirement in the Jewish faith.
Circumcision is not going to end AIDS and it is recklessly irresponsible of a former president to claim that it would. He's not a doctor. He needs to shut up.
But, then, shutting up has always been a problem for him.
Thankfully I wasn't drinking anything when I read your post. I would have choked to death.
I agree. However male circumcision is under attack, to a large degree because it is a traditional American custom and Jewish requirement, by the PC left, sadly but notably, including the American Academy of Pediatrics. The conventional wisdom in the US, which they attack, had long been that circumcision avoided greatly reduced the rate of a variety of penile problems. My 21 years in Dermatology strongly supports the old conventional wisdom and most my colleagues agree with it. As most of these problems would occur in adults I question whether the pediatricians have much experience on the subject. And if circumcision caused all the terrible permanent problems that they claimed then I should have incidentally seen some of such scarring when examining countless patients for unrelated problems in the area. Instead my experience with circumcision complications has been the proverbial dog that didn't bark. The new data that it significantly reduces HIV just adds to my belief that circumcision is another bit of traditional Americana that should be encouraged.
