Surely not terrorism, our ports being so secure and all. /sarc

Ya know, the knee-jerk cut-n-paste cynical phrases really get old.

They catch and search a suspected container and you are claiming that this illustrates that ports aren't secure? Yes, the Democrat sounbite is that 95% containers don't get physically opened and inspected, but that doesn't mean they aren't run through various detectors, sniffers, etc. And it sounds like this shipped may have fit a profile, gotten extra scrutiny (apparently they opened and inspected at least one based on an official's suspicions.)

All this suggests that far more is going on in dealing with imported containers than what a website spectator knows about.

Fortunately, the ARMSF household has plenty of ammunition. If everything else is off, ammo is much more valuable than Tracphones ;)

Well I am picking up some more ammo today. I bought the potassium iodine pills Monday. I think I pretty much have everything else covered.

As for the the Tracfone, it will undoubtedly be more reliable in the event of an attack do to the fact it's a dual or tri-mode phone, which is not tethered to a paticular carrier. Simply put, the Tracphone has the largest coverage area, and most extensive roaming capabilities or any phone.

Communications will be as if not more important than ammunition in the event of an attack, as the terrorists surely know.

No, no, no!

This is obviously just more fear-mongering organized by Bushitlerburton to distract us from... uhm... something or other...

Oops. Sorry. Wrong chat board.

There has got to be a better way to get in there to determine if there are explosives inside then by blowing the damn doors off.

Unless you are the available guy with the cutting charges. It got the job done, nobody was hurt, and likely pretty cool to watch.

Bottom of the hour KVI Radio Update: The containers were found NOT TO CONTAIN EXPLOSIVES, but contain items of suspicious nature (oily rags from Pakistan). There not sure what set off the bomb shipping dogs.

They would be dropping off cargo at Hong Kong & picking up cargo for Pakistan and other ports. They drop the cargo off at those ports and pick up cargo to go back to Hong Kong and ports East.

On the trans Pacific ships I sailed on we hit most of the ports twice.

They cleaned the AK47s with the rags after they had been stored in oil, and the rags contained the residue of gun poder, I'll bet.

I'm wondering if the dog alerted on residue inadvertently left on the rags or in the container.

I wonder what would happen if seattle or any other american city got 20 bomb calls at the same time? I wonder how a city would handle it.

Shultz said the containers were supposed to contain oily rags, which are often shipped internationally for recycling or use in packaging.

HUH?! There's a market for oily rags? Sheesh.

Why stop at 20? 1000 untraceable cell phones could create a lot of system overload.

A lot of shipping containers are sent back to Asia from the US full of recycled paper (the paper you pay your municipality to pick up at the curb, they in turn sell for recycling)

Actually the Dems would use your statement on any thread. They chant this BS in response to EVERYTHING!!! I'm e-arguing with a local lib and he can't go three days without mentioning his fear of Bushco's Rovian fear tactics. I told him he seems to have an obsessive fear of fear itself. He HATES that. Then tells me that I'm hateful and that that's very bad. While he hates and fears neocons and Christian fundamentalists, but not terrorists. I think I'll give him a mirror for Christmas with a big 'W' on it. LOL
