We ask all Republicans politicians to help the Connecticut Republican candidate win the senate seat up for election on November 7, 2008.
We ask you to do this by:
1. Convincing Republican nominee Alan Schlesinger, who has proven to be a weak candidate, to drop out of the race.
2. Replacing Alan Schlesinger with a strong Republican candidate.
3. Accepting the fact that Republicans, like popular Governor Jodi Rell, can win in Connecticut.
4. Stopping all verbal and financial support of Independent Democrat Joe Lieberman, who has pledged to caucus with the Democrats and continue to vote with them on most issues.
5. Endorse the Republican nominee, and work to get him or her elected.
If Republicans continue to surrender this seat to Lieberman, it sends a bad message to America: if liberal senators vote with us on one or two issues, we will let them be re-elected without a fight.
While Alan Schlesinger is legitimate Republican with a conservative record, his election has been mired in scandal. With polls showing his support below 10%, it is clear that he will not win the election. If Schlesinger were to drop out of the race, he could be replaced with a great Republican candidate.
The American Conservative Union gave Lieberman a 7% rating in 2003, a 0% rating in 2004 and an 8% in 2005. Lieberman has already promised to caucus with Democrats and maintain his liberal voting record. There is no reason for Republicans to aid his election in any way.
John Kerry only won this state by a 10% margin in 2004. With Lieberman and Lamont splitting the liberal vote, this is a great opportunity for Republicans to add a seat to their senate majority.
In the 2004 Connecticut Senate race, Republican Jack Orchulli took a third of the vote against popular Democratic incumbent Chris Dodd. Orchulli would easily be able to maintain those votes in 2006, already making him competitive in a three way race.
If the Republican party was united behind a strong candidate like Orchulli, he could win the seat, add to the Republican senate majority and carry out a respectable voting record for conservatives nationwide. The re-election of Joe Lieberman won't do any of that.
If the demonRATS screw smoken joe out of his power {if he wins the general election} you can bet that Rove will have a nice committee for him {if he switches from independent to pubbie}.
Joe is running as an "independent" Rat, and he will certainly rejoin the Dems after he wins, if he does.
The only question is whether he will move somewhat to the right. The jury is out on that. I doubt that he'll ever be a genuine independent.
Anyway, a Lamont defeat would be a HUGE 'slap-in-the face' to all those anti-military, anti-US, pacifist, appeaser left-wing nut cases who are absolutely drooling over Lamont. A Lieberman election would once again show that the leftie-loonies are NOT representative of the entire country.
A Lieberman win would put a stop to their 'wet dreams' of a US 'cut and run' total capitulation and pullout from Iraq
100%
Vote for Lamont = a vote for Iraq defeat and communism.
Vote for Slesinger = a vote for Lamont.
Vote for lieberman = a vote for Democrat chaos and confusion.
How can this be a hard choice.
A very practical Texas Conservative.
It sucks but it's a start
The best thing would be for a Republican to get elected in CT.
It is not impossible.
There are some called republicans vouching for Lieberman in a clear example of stupidity, a Lieberman win will not help the conservative agenda or the Republican political agenda.
Just the moonbat rats.
The DemocRats are in a quandry. They want Joe to quietly go away so that the Democrat nominee can when. But they can't push Joe too hard to quit, because he could decide to pull a Jumping Jim Jeffords on them (hold the seat as an "Independent" and caucus with the other side).
Why not? Schlesinger is a joke, but Republicans need to support Republicans instead of a liberal who will go back to the back-stabbing Dims anyway. If another Republican steps in, then the GOP should support him/her.
Advocating an end to supporting Lieberman and supporting a genuine Republican makes one a troll?
Is this a DU thread?
Do you see any Democrats supporting Chafee? They're supporting the Rat nominee against the winner of the Chafee/Laffey primary. Dims don't support Republicans. Why should Republicans support Lieberman just because he half-heartedly supports of the WOT?
Yes. Lieberman is a loyal Democrat, but the situation and his candidacy make trouble within the Rat party -- and marginally help to educate the still-clueless about how awful the Rats are.
You're right -- it's not a hard choice. Not satisfactory, but certainly not hard.
Article shows no understanding of the dynamics or impact on the Party of Treason the Lieberman campaign will cause.
And it is totally false that supporting Lieberman sends any kind of wrong message to America.
Are you the same leftist whom JimRob banned yesterday after being banned previously under about ten other names which he listed?????
Not a troll. Just a poor strategist.
Perhaps spending more time around here will clarify your thinking. FR is generally not too receptive to political advice from Newbies.
Lieberman is not going to vote with the Republicans. Dude, what are you smoking? I can't believe people want to save Lieberman's behind here. He's a fricking liberal!!
Spot on with the assesments, you dont see Dims even vouching for Chafee, Collins,Snowe etc anyone apart from a another dim.
A Lieberman win will be toasted a win for centrism and allow others moonbats like Hillary, Warner and a whole lot of assorted Libs who back him to paint themselves as Centrist for the next Presidential election. Conservatives support for a ultra lib like Lieberman lacks common sense and shows a weak understanding of the political dynamics.
Totally agree. Ignore the moonbats calling for you to be zotted.
1. That you have been banned yet again; and
2. That we know that you are trying to save Red Ned, collateral descendant of the infamous 1930s-1940s communist Corliss Lamont; and
3. Whatever the fantasies of those at Demonrats Underground, we at FR were not born last night. The CT GOP is DOA except for Rell who is popular only because she is the incumbent governor who is NOT Jailbird abortionsmoocher Rowland.
Look, Republicans shouldn't meddle in liberal affairs. Who cares if moonbats fight against liberals? The GOP should worry about their own races instead of trying to help someone who tried to block Bush's Presidency just six years ago.
