Oliver Stone's new film, "World Trade Center," got off to a promising start at the box office on Wednesday, grossing better-than-expected receipts of $4.4 million in its first day, Paramount Pictures executives said on Thursday.
They added that if the pace continued, the film about the battle to save two policemen trapped under tons of rubble in the September 11 attacks could bring in more than $20 million through its opening weekend -- a figure that would exceed expectations.
The $65 million movie, which received several strong reviews, is the first big-budget feature to be made about the suicide hijackings, although a smaller budget film "United 93" last spring grossed $31.5 million.
Many industry experts questioned whether moviegoers are ready for films about the disaster which is still fresh and painful in the minds of many Americans.

Thanks for the recommendation.
I'll be taking my 9yo daughter to this soon.
This film is the story of the firefighters.
Keep in mind that most of them didn't even know what we out here in TV land knew until much later in the day.
Some of the ones in the North Tower didn't even now the South Tower had fallen.
I'm seeing it tonight.
We're all going at 4 today, including the kids (10 and 12).
I hope its good!
Screw them where it hurts. DON'T SPEND a PENNY on it. These are the "girly" men? of Hollywood pretending to be men! :) - Don't give them the money!
Hollywood represents trash. But, let's be realistic, kids like them so... I guess you have to. BUT WHERE POSSIBLE, do no spend the money on what hollywood produces. There are plenty of other activities you can spend your money on. Bye :)
No, good movies are worth supporting just like good books, good music...

I intend to see this tomorrow. The last time I went to the theater was to see "The Passion of the Christ." What the Liberal "media" means by "too soon" is that the movie has been released before the DemocRATS have regained their power and control of our wallets and pocketbooks.
TOO SOON..............
Not over "Alexander" yet
From what I understand this movie is not about the hijackings - it is about the cops - in fact I have read that the esteemed Mr. Stone gives little to no mention of the Islamic Terrorists who killed 3000 people - I can wait for video thanks - and maybe not even then.
I thought the same thing.
Just saw this movie. Have never liked Oliver Stone but this movie is awesome. I left the movie feeling proud to be an American. Props to Mr. Stone.
I saw it tonight. I thought it was powerful and very well acted, written, and directed.
I saw it tonight, and it's a touching disaster movie, that's about it. I'd give it a "B-". It could have been about two people trapped in earthquake rubble. No mention of who did it but "terrorists", whoever they are. If it was supposed to be about two people trapped in the rubble of a terrorist attack without getting into who did it, then why did it have to be about 9/11 at all? I'd recommend a matinee, I guess.
I've heard conflicting opinions about this movie. If a person sees this movie who never heard of 9/11, would he understand who the villains are?
