Probably just a cynical tactic to prevent a complete mutiny in the IDF. Let them burn off a few thousands rounds to cool off before the news sinks in that they were used.

Well..I don't know what's really up- but I do know what I'm seeing. The Security Council is about to vote on a proposal that is a disaster for everyone.

I think the agreement sounds appalling, but I also think Olmert bears a huge burden of the blame - he has had just about ONE MONTH to do something in southern Lebanon, he couldn't expect the USA to be able to hold off the UN and the Arab League weasels forever, and he squandered much of this historic need and opportunity.

I also hope/expect that the Hezi-Nazis will give Israel cover to toss aside the resolution and resume the offensive, though with Olmert it is getting hard to believe he will do so.

Olmert was mediocre as Jerusalem Mayor. As Prime Minister it turned out the shoes were too big for him to fill. He's just a washed out political hack who rode into the PM's office solely on the strength of a sympathy vote for Sharon. But he will not be PM any longer. The rage and disgust in Israel is going to be universal once the news breaks. Support for this government will puncture like a popped up balloon.
